Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Goetz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I believe that feeling a sense of home is one of the most important things in life. I hope my legacy will be the gift of giving others peace of mind, solace and serenity and a sense of pride inside their homes. Whenever I leave a space, I hope to leave them their own sanctuary.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hannah Goetz Organizing is a female-owned professional organizing business that works with residential and commercial spaces to create long-term organizing solutions for clients and help them reduce day-to-day stress.
One winter break during college, I had a sudden urge to reorganize my childhood room and get rid of 20 years-worth of schoolwork, clothes, toys, all of it (don’t worry, all but the keepsakes). My mom, with good intention, always taught me the value of keeping and cherishing every piece of schoolwork just in case I’d need it in the future. I started to see that too much stuff can be overwhelming, counterproductive and actually had been weighing me down. This sudden desire to organize turned out to be the first time in my life I had felt in control and in my element. As I shredded 20 years of stuff, I didn’t realize the process would lead to my true passion.
I began organizing for friends and family and before I knew it, I was looking up ways to become an organizer and somehow turn my passion into a career.
HGO offers in-home and commercial organizing, design and styling, all-inclusive move-in packages and virtual services. HGO will assess each space to create beautiful and functional home systems that meet your lifestyle. Based in Austin and Houston, Texas.
HGO simplifies your space so you can simplify your life.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Making the decision of turning HGO into a full-time career was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make, for a few reasons: having the full confidence in myself, trying to get past all of my doubts and fears and lastly, leaving a company that I loved.
A few years after working full-time for a local start-up company, I gravitated back to my passion for organizing. At the time, professional organizers were numbered in Austin and I had revisited some of my old notes of different organizing company names and ideas. It clicked at that time, that this had been a part of me for a while and the only way to get started was to do it myself.
I started HGO as a side project to give me space and time to learn and see if this was even worth exploring. I started organizing for friends and family, and before I knew it, more opportunities were coming up. I then came to another crossroads a few years later. Did I want to stay with the company I had originally grown with and loved, or did I want to take the leap and invest in myself?
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Social media, such as Instagram posts and stories, and word of mouth have been the most effective for growing my clientele.
