We recently connected with Hannah Evans and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Hairchaos Studio began as just as a thought for my Instagram handle. When I created the handle, I felt the name needed to fit my personality and vibe. I went through all these names and thought about what stylists have to go through during the service when formulating color and deciding on the technique to use in order to achieve the final look. This can be chaotic and yet the end result is beautiful.
We relocated from Washington, DC to Newnan, Georgia in 2017. I had to start all over building a new clientele, going from salon to salon trying to find the perfect fit for my new salon family.
When I look back the funny thing is I never wanted to open my own salon. It was my husband who continually pushed me to go on my own and open my own studio. When I did decide to open Hairchaos Studio I was craving an environment that was cozy, come as you are, enjoy a good laugh, receive luxurious services, and leave feeling beautiful.
I decided to leave an environment that no longer aligned with me, and I opened Hairchaos in the beginning of 2019 and I never looked back.
I do wish I had taken my husband’s advice and started earlier, because I would be that much further along in ownership. However, I do not regret starting when I did, because its all about timing, and the timing came at the right time for me.
What I would have changed is knowing the details that involves owning a business. Such as having to adjust your business plan/model, knowing the breakdown of all your expenses vs. your profits, taxes, establishing an LLC or SCORP, branding, networking, marketing, hiring the right people, and establishing a culture.
These are all imperative before opening a business. What has helped me is having a business coach, hiring slowly and hiring the right people who align with you and your brand.
I work hard to make sure I have the right people that I can collaborate, network, and discuss business ideas with to grow.
Hannah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
There are multiple ways to grow a satisfied and loyal clientele. One of the many ways I would recommend is joining all local and mom groups on Facebook. Introduce yourself, let them know a little about you, and give the group some information on the services you specialize in and provide. Make sure you setup a professional Facebook and Instagram pages and direct them to the salon pages and your professional pages. Another way to grow your clientele is to consistently post 3x per day on Instagram, and the best times to post is first thing in the morning/lunch/evening. When posting on Instagram make sure you make reels with the highest trending sounds/music. Have fun making the reels, everyone loves to see you having fun and being authentic. In addition, a great referral program setup in the salon will ensure that clients that are happy with their service will recommend others to you.
Lastly, remember if a client is truly happy with their service and enjoyed their time with you ask them if would kindly write a review on google/ and professional Facebook page.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Since 2019 when I opened Hairchaos Studio I have had “Pivot” and adjust my business model, career and life 2 times. In the beginning of 2020 Covid hit us and shut everything down. I was closed for 5 weeks. While I was shut down, I was able to create a website and take a business class, However, during this time, I was renovating my current location without generating any income. Once we were allowed to re-open, I worked 8 days straight 10-hour days. I would then work 4-5 days every other week to accommodate all of my clients taking one client at a time. What I noticed is that I was being more effective and efficient during each service when I took one client at a time. Some stylists double book, I decided that my salon would no longer double book clients. Clients at Hairchaos Studio have enjoyed that intimate time with their stylist and allows them a chance to relax.
In January of 2021 found out I was pregnant. Completely surprised and in shock I had to then again adjust and pivot my business to accommodate doctor appointments/ maternity leave/ and kids schedule once returning from maternity leave.
To relieve some of the stress off of me I hired 2 stylists to help take on clients that I had while out on maternity leave, keep her clientele and retain new clientele.
I soon realized that we needed to adjust our schedules to accommodate a better work-life balance.
