Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Hart. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hannah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I think part of being a business owner is taking risks. Every big step in my business has seemed like a big risk. When I opened my online shop 3.5 years ago, I spent about $150 on inventory. Then, that seemed like a big deal. Now, I’m glad I started small. I have never taken a business loan. I’ve worked my way up from the bottom. It took a while to get my first sale and it’s not been until now do I actually get sales every day. If I had started by spending more on inventory then I did, it would have been a big mistake. It would have taken so long for me to sell. Since then, I have taken more risks. Every time I place my next biggest order of inventory, I’m always nervous about the risk, but it turns out okay. I’m getting ready to start designing my own clothing, which will require a large order quantity. This will be a big risk, but I have faith that just like in times past- it will be okay!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Hannah. I’m the owner of Hannah Gabrielle. I’m also a substitute teacher by day, Sunday school teacher, and a wife. I’ve always had this entrepreneurial side to me. Even as a kid, I would try to sell coloring pages or whatever I could think of. I wanted to have a business, but didn’t know what it would be. When I was 15, I started an Etsy shop called AnchorsBowsAndLace. I sold baby headbands and crochet baby items. Eventually I knew I wanted to do something bigger. I really wanted to start my own boutique. I started thinking of names. I didn’t want it to sound generic. I wanted it to sound like a name brand. I decided on Hannah Gabrielle- my first and middle name. I chose purple as my main branding color because it had always been my favorite and it was something different. With that, I jumped right in knowing nothing about starting a boutique. Everything I know now, I have learned over years of trial, error, and research.
One thing that is different about Hannah Gabrielle is that we provide clothing that is fashionable, but more modest than what’s typically on the market. We also create unique sleepwear that is made for women who wish to be comfy, but modest in front of friends and family.
I am proud of being a business owner. It’s something I have to refrain from talking about too much because I know it doesn’t interest everyone. Whenever I get together with fellow women business owners, we could talk and talk forever. I’m proud of how far I’ve come. It’s not been one bit of luck, but hard work. I had hoped (like I think most do) that my business would just blow up automatically when I started. If you have a dream, you can accomplish it if you are willing to be relentless. Then, we you get there, you too can be proud of how far you’ve came.
I would like to say that I have been very blessed to have a husband who supports me in my business ventures. He helps me with anything from ideas to packing orders. He married me fully knowing what he was getting in to. Also, I couldn’t have done any of this without God’s blessings.
If you are thinking about starting a business. I would say make sure you have a unique idea and be ready to work hard. With these two “tools” you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One thing I see with most small businesses owners that fail is their lack of resilience. If you want to be successful you have to be stubborn. No matter what happens, you have to be so determined to make it. For the first three years, my sales were so slow. I would get discouraged at times and experience creative blocks. That will happen and that’s okay. One thing I never did was give up. I had a vision and quitting was not part of it. I had some people close to me that didn’t support what I was doing. There were people who didn’t seem to care. I never let it stop me because it didn’t matter to me. I believed in me and I kept going. Now I have more support because people saw that I was for real. People have seen so many people fail that they may not take you seriously, but you have the choice to prove them wrong. Resilience will make you successful.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’m new to success on social media and here’s how I did it. I stayed consistent. It may sound cliche, but it is so true. For me, consistency looks like posting every day because it becomes part of my daily routine. Posting a reel a day is especially great for growth. I’ve had a few reels blow up. So many sales have came from these reels. My favorite thing about my social presence is the community I have built. I feel like I have a support system made up of women who believe in what I do and love Hannah Gabrielle. I feel so humbled that I am able to help these women build their fashionable, modest wardrobe.
