Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Carroll. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hannah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents have been instrumental in shaping the person I am today. My dad emphasized the importance of manners and respect, teaching me to always treat people kindly because you never know what they might be going through. This lesson has deeply impacted how I interact with others, both personally and professionally. My mom, on the other hand, instilled in me the value of staying focused and not getting sidetracked. I remember how she persevered through hardships to complete law school, earning her degree despite the challenges she faced. Her determination to achieve her goals, even when things got difficult, has been a powerful example in my life. Her guidance has helped me maintain clarity and determination, ensuring I stay on course even when distractions arise. Together, their teachings have been a strong foundation for my journey, influencing my decisions and interactions every day.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a graphic designer, and have been in the design industry for about 4 years now! I create full brand identities, websites, social media content & offer lots of other services for small businesses in the beauty industry. I stayed consistent with posting passion projects on Instagram from 2020 – as a result, business has flourished since then & now, I have so many loyal clients now who repeatedly book me for projects! I’m proud of how far I’ve come with my business, and how many clients I have been able to retain over the years because of how satisfied they’ve been with the work produced. I’m also proud of myself because I recently started another business on the side called Her Haus of Hair (@herhausofhair on Instagram), and now offer Creative Direction services under my graphic design business. It definitely has gotten difficult at times, but to overcome my challenges, I stayed focused on what God called me to, and relied on Him to keep me on the right path and stay focused so I don’t get discouraged. I’ve learned that not everyone can and will be satisfied, and I’ve also learned that it’s totally okay! As long as I maintain integrity with my business & don’t lose focus, everything will be fine! The one thing I want everyone to know about me & my brand is that without God, none of this would be possible – I wouldn’t be who & where I am today if it wasn’t for his blessings, mercy, and sufficient grace!

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, my side hustle evolved into my full-time business. After graduating high school in 2020, I took a gap year due to COVID, and I wanted to use that time productively. Knowing that I didn’t want to work for someone else, I decided to turn what I did in my free time into a real business. I started by creating graphics for people locally in my hometown, The Bahamas, and soon gained recognition for my work. Posting my designs on social media expanded my reach, leading to clients from different countries—my first international client was from the UK! Thanks to my consistency and dedication, what began as a side hustle has now grown into a six-figure business.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by being consistent in posting content and engaging with other popular accounts in my industry. By interacting regularly, I was able to make connections with other designers, which eventually led to forming genuine friendships. I also focused on doing consistent passion projects and frequently shared my client work, which helped me gain exposure. For anyone just starting out, my advice is to stay consistent and active. Engage with others in your field, share your work regularly, and be authentic in your interactions. Building meaningful connections can significantly boost your presence and growth.
