We were lucky to catch up with Hannah Bear recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hannah, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Our 1:1 training and personalized care is different than most models in the home. We are there to help fill in the gaps and provide the care that insurance does not necessarily cover. Being a concierge provider, we tailor what we do around what the client wants and needs. Our nurse oversight and availability for concierge visits is what sets us apart in this industry. Our at home IV therapy and Urgent Care brings a NP and RN straight to you, making care more convenient than ever. In a healthcare system where people often struggle to get a doctors appointment for months and a nurse to call back for a simple question, people are tired of feeling like just a number. The system is over worked, understaffed, under compensated, and has ever evolving expectations for documenting all they do. Across the healthcare landscape, there is less time with the patients than ever before and a heavy reliance on technology now to get the job done. homeRN is different, we focus on exceptional care along with building relationships which our clients find refreshing and beneficial to their overall health. Our team members have the gift of empathy and compassion, which give them the ability to focus on having a patient centered approach in caregiving. This allows them to drive their desire to ease the clients suffering and difficulties, as well as help relate to what the clients are experiencing in general. When you form a bond with a nurse and caregiver, it builds a foundation that creates trust with your clients.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 34 year old mother to 3 young sons. While at school for a nursing degree from The University of Alabama, I watched my own family’s journey with various healthcare services throughout my father’s 2 year battle with ALS. It was an incredibly difficult time in my life which highlighted the good and bad in the healthcare system. I have been called to the home care and hospice industry ever since, trying to help others navigate healthcare and navigate for them when it is easy to get lost in the mix. My husband and I have the opportunity to live in the community in which we were born and raised, and I am proud to bring homeRN services to those we love in Montgomery, Alabama! homeRN founder, Eliza Maxwell, and multiple other owners all attended The University of Alabama within the same few years. It has been a gift to be able to join a group of supportive women, mothers, and healthcare providers wanting to make a difference in their own communities. We are a Concierge Caregiving and Nursing Service, which offers in home IV therapy as well as in home Urgent Care. Covid changed some aspects of the healthcare system in a positive way, highlighting the opportunities to conveniently bring resources to you in the comfort of your own home. Our personalized plan of care and use of an RN to oversee and manage all aspects of your care is what sets us apart. We will collaborate with your primary care provider, hospice, home health, or loved ones to ensure comprehensive care. Our goal is to provide personalized, compassionate care to fit your needs. Plus, in pursuit of delivering the most elevated caregiving experience, one of our nurses performs regular drop-ins and facilitates bi-weekly evaluations of the client’s plan of care with the designated caregiving team. Our IV and Urgent Care services provide a premium wellness experience. Our In-Home Urgent Care visits bring all the essential elements of a traditional urgent care experience straight to your living room. The process starts with a phone consultation with our nurse practitioner. We will then facilitate testing, diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medication for acute illnesses, all from the comfort of your home. Designed for those feeling under the weather, recovering from a night out, or simply seeking an immunity boost, our in-home IV Therapy is an unkept secret to providing immediate relief. I am proud that we are all a group of nurses and nurse practitioners, that recognize a need for personalized care at home. Majority of us are back serving the community in which we grew up, which offers a different aspect of investment. We want to help our clients and their families any way we can, as well as provide a wonderful environment to train and employ the best caregivers and aspiring medical personnel. The ability to work with students to help give them experience and skills is very special, and a way to give back to the profession that captured our hearts.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After my dad passed away, I wanted to quit nursing school. I thought I wanted out of the medical field all together. I was determined to change my major and pursue an education degree, but my mother challenged me to finish what I started. My mother saw something in me that I could not and pushed me throughout the most difficult time in my life. A number of friends and family supported me and I am so thankful. A multitude of small decisions over the past 13 years have led me to this opportunity with homeRN. Owning a business was never my intention, but it was impossible to pass up the chance to be a part of what Eliza Maxwell created. My faith is the foundation of who I am, and I believe we are each called to love people, find your purpose, and make a difference. I have been poured into and mentored by a number of managers and colleagues over the years, and I am excited to continue to work with them in this special community, just in a slightly different capacity. I hope our children realize one day what it takes to be a part of something bigger than themselves and our family.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
homeRN relies heavily on word of mouth. In the South, people are more than happy to share their opinions and experiences with you, whether good or bad. We strive to treat each client like family, and to do it with joy no matter the circumstance. It is an honor to serve friends and neighbors, always pursuing excellence and the most personalized care possible.
