Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Bagnall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hannah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Usually around tax time is when I imagine having one job and minimal paperwork to deal with, but most of the time I’m thrilled with my choice to do a plethora of creative gigs. I work a lot, often seven days a week, but it also means I can take time to travel – though I wish someone would give me paid leave! I have to be much more in tune with my personal priorities, and when I am, making values-based decisions is pretty easy.

Hannah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hannah’s Enchantments was one of those silver linings of 2020. I had a lot of time to marinate on what I really wanted to do and what I felt was missing from the world that I had to offer. I saw how the kids I was nannying for lived in the moment, really enjoying the present, and found that was missing for me. Having moved to Florida from Missouri, I realized I also missed having the weather change as a marker of time – it was hard to feel Christmassy in a bikini! Talking to friends about my personal effort to help myself celebrate the seasons more intentionally and playfully made me realize that other people need this, too – and my Hannah’s Enchantments seasonal workbooks were born! Along with the workbooks I release each season, I help people celebrate the seasons with intention and childlike wonder with a bi-weekly subscriber and a free monthly newsletter. All of the gigs I do – nannying, performing as a princess and mermaid for kid’s parties, teaching artist, choreography – even dogsitting – all inform my work in Hannah’s Enchantments. You never know what will be enchanting!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I’ve had to unlearn is that it needs to be perfect before I can share it with the world. In the past, I’ve spent hours, days, years stewing in uncertainty and feeling that I couldn’t tell anyone about my work until it was absolutely perfect. But creating Hannah’s Enchantments has been an evolution – each workbook builds on the last, and my website is constantly getting updates. I’m so glad I started before I was ready!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission with Hannah’s Enchantments is to foster love, intention and connection for families and people on their own by enabling engaging and curious relationships, encouraging open hearted interest and loving-kindness for all, and prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion alongside beauty, joy, and luxurious free time. Simply put, I want everyone to pay more attention to the world around them, and to be assured that they are loved. I adore the quote by poet Mary Oliver, “Attention is the beginning of devotion.”
