We recently connected with Hanna Roth and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hanna , thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I am creating coloring books to encourage people to find a connection to their own creativity but the next step will be creating books that make you realize the artworks we are surrounded by more easily and also encourage in a different way of creating. I will publish some books that guide in a special way through cities and regions in Europe. I will pick out the most precious places to see and explain the artworks standing around in public spaces and add some creative tasks that will help to perceive the world in the moment and nit though the screen of a phone.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am born in the year 1990 in Germany and I have always been fascinated by painting and especially coloring (even as a kindergarten kid) As I progressed through school, it became evident that art was all around me – not matter in which subject I was sitting, my mind was bound to art. Art classes became my sanctuary, and it was during this time that I realized my future lay in a creative field. I pursued higher education in studying art, ultimately earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Fine Art. I had to chose between sculpture and painting and I decided to be a painter. During several courses I realized that I was especially into linocutprinting and illustration.
I have always been deeply fascinated by the way the personality shapes the creative decisions and wanted to learn more about the super power of creativity. So I decided to study art therapy in which I also hold a bachelor degree. I realized in what amount art can have a positive effect of mind and body when it’s used right.
i decided to combine both of my worlds and create coloring books that encourage in being more connected to your own creativity and helping people to unfold it. i also plan more books in also other fields such as exploring different cities and explaining crazy artworks.. but that’s a whole different topic.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was taken down super early in my self publishing process as I decided to do it all on my own and not wait for someone to find me. I published around 15 Coloring Books via Amazon KDP until they cut me down and took all my books out of their shop. Until today I haven’t found out why they did so but I had to start back from the very beginning. I was questioning if it was worth the effort, as I hadn’t sold a single book around that time but.. I decided to continue.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Art is so important for people to consume or do (excuse me for my bad English I hope it is still understandable) In the moment we are getting creative ourselves we can slow down and relax (of course only if we are able to overcome the fear of failing – but honestly: from my POV there simply isn’t any chance to fail in art because some people got famous by putting butter in a rooms corner) It is a healing aspect in getting creative and taking the time for this special way of selfceare. that’s why I decided to create coloring books – because they submit a frame in which people can start slowly in a secure way to not be afraid to fail. Society should encourage people to see the beauty in art to prevent burn out
