We were lucky to catch up with Hanna Love recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hanna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
My general love for art was seeded in me by my nana, which leads me to create everything in honor of her and all she instilled in me. She was an oil painter and a creatrix in many other artistic areas, which led me on a beautiful journey to finding my art form. I first started with wire wrapping crystals after finding a connection to the plethora of healing properties they posses.
I had been in a car accident and was in lots of pain, physically and mentally. In those shadows, crystals (among many other wonderful things and people) led me down a path of spiritual healing
They’ve connected me deeper to my self, Gaia, and my creativity
I began crafting and selling my wirewrapped crystal jewelry, doing pop ups and creating my website.
Covid had hit and I ended up like many others, slowing down and then eventually stopped creating and sort of lost touch with that spark.
I took some months diving into my aerial yoga practice connecting deeper to my self & eventually found myself wanting to enter that creative space again
But this was different, this was a revival, a rebirth. I wanted to pursue a “higher level”in creating jewelry. I’d always loved sterling silver jewelry and the permanence & timelessness of smithed jewelry, but always thought it too ambitious while I was in my comfortable space of wire wrapping
battling nerve damage everlasting from the accident
So I pushed foward
and I went for it
I decided to take a class, to learn and invest the time and money to my craft.
And learning in a safe environment, from professionals
I was of course intimidated, but so excited
The Armory Art center in West Palm Beach is where I had the honor of learning from Michel Mcnabb. She had learned traditional techniques while living in spain and after 18+ years of honing her craft, I became a student in a night class she was leading.
I’d not only found a wonderful teacher to learn under but an amazing friend and mentor, who inspired and believed in me.
The first class I attended, I went home with a copper ring I made myself
I felt so accomplished and ecstatic. I fell in love with it instantly
I would walk into class every Tuesday night and find myself holding onto each moment savoring all the lessons and experiences.
The fastest three hours ever. Every night I left I was ready to go back.
My amazing handy man Dad turned my childhood fort, into my jewelry studio!
The pieces continued to slide into place
Driving down the street I found a magnificent jewelers work bench on the side of the road. A nudge from the universe, divine as always
I now have my creative space and have been diving deeper into my craft, exploring different forms and styles. I now get to create sterling silver jewelry
my creative journey has led me to this form of craft.
I get to play with fire and create beautiful jewelry intentionally made to aide in those who posses them healing and loving energy. And I love every minute
Hanna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Hanna Love, I am a silver smith based in South Florida Creating intentionally made pieces to enrich the soul
I love fusing my work with crystals to pull us all collectively closer to nature & the healing they empower
Creating for self and others, honoring my art form all the while spreading positivity
I have the honor to work closely with clients to understand their desires when I work on custom creations
the design, their intentions, any personalizations
I want the piece to embody their vision and be everything they were imagining and more
As I do hands on customs, I also do Intuitive pieces!
It involves me digging deeper into their needs,
asking a series of questions, their zodiac signs
a photo where they feel most connected with higher power
and anything they’d like to request specifically
The piece will be a surprise until it is in its new home! Made to honor highest self and aide the individual on their journey
As well as custom creations I handcraft 1 of 1 pieces I feel called to create, exploring different styles and techniques,
although my heart holds lots of space for big chunky crystal statement jewelry
I love honoring my creative self through my art and being able to help heal my community
Most recently with Roe v Wade being overturned, my head and heart have been extremely heavy
naturally bleeding into my creative space, as well as my usual creations-
I am creating what I like to call, my Angry Woman jewelry- a small collection of statement stamped pendants
“f*ck the patriarchy” “my body, my choice”
“hear us roar” and “I am woman”
I am donating a portion of those creations to abortion rights groups, like planned parenthood, in the name of my customer.
I feel that as a woman creatrix in this time I have to find a way to turn this pain to power. And in a positive way. May we all support and love eachother with compassion and understanding. And translate that into everything we do whole heartedly.
Although my platform may be small, I try my hardest to be impactful and stand up for my beliefs
cultivating a safe and uplifting tribe
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think that the state of the world plays a large part in my crafting Creating intentionally to heal and raise the vibrations of the collective consciousness
& being able to put that out into a world that is unfortunately very negative and hurtful is so important to me.
I want to be a light in the dark for my customers, bringing them a sense of peace amidst all of the uncertainty
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
There’s so many ways to support artist in your community, of course shop small! And find businesses you can connect with, creating a supportive relationship with an artist can be liking their post, sharing it, sending supportive messages! Many things, on and off screen It always feels great to get a sale and send a piece of to its new loving home, but those messages of encouragement,
sharing posts, simple things, hit your heart in a tender spot.
Anytime you take the time to do an act of support, it feels wonderful.
I can only speak for myself but I can imagine others experience this also, dry spells. Moments of not feeling connected, not having the confidence or energy to put yourself in that creative space. But having that support helps pull you out of that headspace and I am so thankful for anybody offering any form of support to me and my art.
