We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hanna Jung & Nb Kim a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hanna Jung , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Purrple Waxing & Nails originally started out in two separate salon rooms. NB ran her own nail salon and I ran my own waxing salon. We were eachother’s client turned friends and told eachother we’d work hard and move into a storefront together. In two years of starting our own business we were able to becomes business partners and move into a bigger salon together like we had envisioned.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
NB and I both have been in this industry for over 10 years. NB is a design major which definitely shows in her nail arts. I’ve always been interested in skincare which is why our salon offers different kinds of Brazilian waxes. I like to incorporate treatment based services after waxing to help treat and prevent ingrown hairs.
How’d you meet your business partner?
NB and I have been business partners for 2 years now and we’ve been in business for 4 years in total. We met as eachother’s clients first. She reached out to me for waxing and I went to her for nails. We got along very well from the start and became friends. I was in the middle of starting my own business so I mentioned it to her and she soon joined me in opening her own business too. We started out renting rooms in a salon suite. We worked our way to opening our own salon together.
How did you build your audience on social media?
A lot of our clients come from word of mouth. We do take advantage of social media and are active on instagram as much as we could be. I think we try to stay consistent and even when we’re not physically at the salon we’re always working on our phones.
