We were lucky to catch up with Hanna Jennings recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hanna, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I realized art was a way of life, it felt like the right path to an authentic life. Being creative is a part of us, you have the option to create yourself, or follow behind another artist. The life comes from allowing yourself to be the artist. Learning to not get so hard on yourself, to be patient, and to be kind are great skills I’ve developed while pursuing my art. It’s made me a better person, so obviously, that’s a way of life I would want for myself, as well as others. When my art brought me internal happiness, peace, and it spread to others, I knew I would like to keep sharing love with the world around me. It’s built up self esteem and taught me the value of vulnerability with one another as well. Especially in today’s world, cherishing one another’s art is so important. Working to really listen and understand.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a painter, but have expanded my practice into design and furniture. While I started off with photography, I began to dream up things from my imagination. Perhaps it has to do with age, but I wanted to upcycle furniture the older I got, and looking in an architectural path. People appreciated that, and the chair I welded in college. While I love painting, I want to be conscious of production. I looked to my environment to guide in when creating for “Mother Earth” as my audience. How can I use my art to “help.” That’s when I really my own human experience and abstractions does add up to “me” and my accumulation of knowledge. I don’t have to just paint, I can create for people like you and me, that want art, but perhaps something physical. My abstracted art self became a realist designer, focusing on adding structure to my ADHD brain.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Blooming! Always turning towards to light, knowing with tenacity it can be accomplished. My goal is to bring groups together, to appreciate one another, and share happiness through art and design.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Having courage and being open minded. The softest people are sometimes the strongest. Art has built me up to see the value of being soft and understanding. Making people happy, along with holding up art, an internal mirror, to something, that makes them feel, is always rewarding. Art can be life changing if you allow it to be. You can always grow with it and that’s what is beautiful to me.
