Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hana Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
My path as an entrepreneur has been a winding one. For many years I felt lost and overwhelmed by the internal and external pressures of what I thought success should look like. I constantly compared myself to others and struggled with feeling like nothing I ever accomplished was good enough. In my undergraduate I studied western medicine because I liked science and had always been interested in health but I felt intimidated by my peers who had such clear career goals. When it came time to apply to medical school I knew that my heart just wasn’t in it and for the first time ever I gave myself permission to not have it all figured out.
I spent the next few years floating and although the stress of the unknown weighed heavily on my mind day in and day out, I focused on putting one foot in front of the other and trusted that eventually it would make sense – which is a particular belief that still serves me today. I hopped from job to job, gathered experiences like a bee gathers pollen, and ended up as a flight attendant for American Airlines. However, the same insecurities haunted me in that job as my undergraduate – I was surrounded by people who loved being flight attendants, were excited and passionate about their jobs and I felt….nothing. I had a job that millions of girls would kill for but I felt dissatisfied, unfulfilled, and resentful of an opportunity that I “should” have been grateful for.
That being said, that particular job ended up providing unparalleled clarity and was one of the most defining experiences of my life. It pushed me to ask myself what I really wanted and it became glaringly obvious that what I needed, and yearned for above all else was to help other people. For months I meditated on what exactly that meant and one day I woke up from a dream and it finally clicked – I wanted to go back to school, get my Masters Degree, and become a licensed acupuncturist. Within two months I began an intensive program and spent the next several years completely immersed in the academic and applied world of health and human sciences.
Shortly after graduating I opened my own private practice and within a year I created my 3-month online program, The Balanced Woman, to make Chinese Medicine accessible to women all over the world so that they could heal themselves and be a part of a supportive community of like-minded people who are all devoted to becoming the best versions of themselves. My work has taken on a life of its own and last year I began my 6-month apprenticeship, launched the Awaken the Healer Within podcast, released a weekly newsletter, and began holding in-person retreats.
Just about everything I’ve created now is a direct result of experiencing exactly what I DID NOT want.
There’s so much more to say, but being on a path that wasn’t aligned was absolutely essential because by contrast it made it abundantly clear that I wanted to create a life that felt meaningful, purposeful, and centered around contribution. So many of us feel lost, insecure, and like we’re drowning in self-doubt but ultimately every single choice we make, regardless of whether it seems right or not is a valid and necessary stepping stone to bring us to where we are now. For some of us, it’s just as important to know who we and what resonates with us as it what absolutely does not.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Everything I offer now is a result of my own health imbalances and not wanting to see women suffer as I did.
I struggled with so many issues since childhood that became progressively worse in my 20s. My hormones were all over the place, my mood was unstable, I was unexpectedly fainting and having seizures multiple times a week, I had been diagnosed with cervical dysplasia and HPV, OCD in the form of dermatillomania, chronic fatigue, migraines, IBS, insomnia, and severe anxiety not to mention the emotional ramifications of being sexually assaulted.
I was a mess and felt frustrated, confused, and at times completely hopeless.
I poured thousands of dollars and many years trying one thing after another – I saw doctors, specialists, therapists, surgeons, and nutritionists, and tried so many different medications, diets, and exercise regimes…it felt like it would never end and nothing really stuck.
So what finally worked? The BIG shift that changed everything was when I discovered Chinese Medicine and I began to do the inner and outer work – the physical and the emotional and spiritual pieces. It wasn’t just about trying to “fix” myself it about about discovering who I truly was.
The weight began to just fall off, my hormones regulated themselves, I worked through my emotional blockages, discovered peace within myself, and created my 3-month online program, The Balanced Woman, so that women EVERYWHERE may heal themselves as I have without having to relay on anyone else when it comes to their wellbeing.
My program is founded on Chinese Medicine which is a proven system of healing that has produced extraordinary results for thousands of years. Together, my clients and I create a diet and exercise routine that is individualized to their unique body type, resolve any emotional blockages or patterns, and realign their relationships, career, and environment to support their healing journey.
What I have found in all my years as an acupuncturist and a women’s holistic health educator is that when we combine these three aspects of healing – physical, emotional, and lifestyle it’s impossible NOT to see the changes that you want. Plus, everything I teach women is applicable for all areas of their life so that they can create vibrant health, high caliber relationships, and to show up as the powerful force for good that they want to be in the world.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Back when I was in school for my masters one of my mentors shared that the key to building a successful practice was to simply do good work. While I have devoted a great deal of resources to developing and implementing solid marketing strategies, my clientele is largely based on referrals. This makes my approach simple – I created a program that yields results, I am devoted to my clients and ensuring that they grow, heal, and transform in ways that are beyond their expectations, I share their stories on my website, social media, and podcast, and they in turn share it with their families, friends, and followers. Across the board this has created a community of women who hold a shared vision of healing themselves and healing others.
At first, I had to work incredibly hard to sign every single client but over the years I’ve gained momentum and created an self-sustaining and steady stream of new clients.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My husband is my business partner! He worked in New York advertising and technology for more than 15 years as a creative project manager. When I began my business it was one of my personal goals to create enough financial stability to support us both so that he could leave his job and finally pursue something that he was genuinely passionate about.
We met over 7 years ago in the Peruvian Amazon at an Ayahuasca retreat and we were both living in New York at the time so we reconnected when we got back home. I moved in a month later and we’ve been married for 5 years and expecting our first baby in a matter of weeks!
He’s been a phenomenal partner both in life and in business. His experience in such a cutthroat industry has forged him into a discerning, practical, organized, persistent, consistent, and completely necessary element in my business. He left his job six months after I began my online program, The Balanced Woman. He initially spearheaded the incorporation of the business, set up the bank accounts, had everything settled on the legal front and then he began tackling dimensions of our work that I either had no time for nor experience so that I could focus more on my clients and creating solid content. He’s built out marketing campaigns and strategies, consistently optimizes SEO across all of my platforms, edits my podcast, handles our taxes, manages our finances, and SO much more.
