We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hallie Halpern. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hallie below.
Hallie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My legacy is extremely important to me. I moved to Miami with the goal and determination of staying here at least until I have built a legacy to my name in this city. I want to be remembered as someone who inspires so many people to pursue their dreams despite their adversities. I want to be remembered as someone who entertains others with creative design skills, but more importantly, my personality. My real passion lies in making others laugh, cry, or feel SOMETHING even if it is hatred. I personally would rather make someone experience a strong emotion towards me and my work than a lukewarm one. My truest desire is to create content in many forms of media that entertains the world and makes the world FEEL.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am 27 years old, born and raised in West Chester PA. I moved to Orlando to attend college at UCF for Graphic Design. Initially, I didn’t even want to go to college! I wanted to move to LA to become an actress. I studied journalism for a month before realizing I hated research, then switched to Graphic Design on a whim. It was such a challenge and I actually hated it up until my last semester when we were able to choose our own niches to design deliverables for. I chose nightlife/music. It clicked immediately. I also began freelancing well before graduating, working on client projects during class because REAL LIFE projects stimulated me more. Upon graduating, I moved to Miami where I worked part time at a web design company and freelanced on the side. This is where I learned how to design websites as I previously had only a small amount of knowledge on the skill. Fast-forward 4 years later and I run my own graphic & web design agency. I work with 3 main pillars as my dream clients: ENTERTAINMENT, BEAUTY, AND WELLNESS. Branding small business from the ground up is my speciality.
I have a podcast called “Icon Elements” which is a blend of self-help, spirituality, and satire. I also have a networking course, “The Empire You Desire”, which is my pride and joy. I truly believe your network is absolutely everything and will make or break your life experience.
Currently, I see myself transitioning from strictly running my design agency to content creation, specifically with a comedic energy. I have always felt comfortable with eyes on me and I know part of my purpose here on earth is to entertain the world. It feels scary and exciting to be shifting into this new territory but I’ve never felt more excited!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
BE AUTHENTIC AND SHOWCASE YOUR LIFESTYLE ONLINE! People do not hire me simply because I’m talented. There are far more talented designers than me. People hire me because they want to work with ME, as a person. As a brand. You need to cultivate an iconic, easily recognizable, and unique brand image and stick with it. Have it bleed into all areas of your life to the point where people can’t see a specific word, color, etc without thinking of you. Polarize your audience into either loving or hating you. Those who love you will recommend you to everyone they know, and you won’t have to cold message anyone. 99% of my clients either come to me directly or their posts are sent to me via friends requesting the services I offer. Have a really f*ing good website. Entertaining and captivating social media presence. Timeliness, attention to detail, and quick responses to client messages are of course a plus. When I am finished with a client, if they aren’t borderline obsessed with the experience of working with me, I didn’t do it right.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Do not take advice from anyone who isn’t where you want to be. Everyone is operating from their own life experience, and most people are also operating from fear. If you have a goal, stick to it. Don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t possible. If I listened to advice from others, I’d be working a 9-5 for some company I hate, having the life sucked out of me on a daily basis. You know in your heart of hearts what you are destined to do. Practice letting people’s advice go in one ear and out the other. I truly tune it out while smiling and nodding.
On the flip side, learn from those who have done great things before you. The term EXPANDER means to identify someone who started where you started, and is now where you want to be. Expanders show you what is possible and have definitely helped me immensely.
