We were lucky to catch up with Haley Slade recently and have shared our conversation below.
Haley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is 80% mindset and 20% skill and talent. You have to BE and embody the success you are trying to achieve, believe you can do it, and start taking those steps. It’s important to ask “who do I want to be?” and then once you establish that answer, you start determining what steps you need to take. If you want to be the next millionaire, what does a millionaire actually do to get there? If you want to be the next best selling author, what does a best selling author do? etc. Hard work and dedication come with whatever you want to be, but it all starts in your mind.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Haley Slade, the CEO & Founder of Slade Copy House, a digital copywriting agency for purpose driven brands. Slade Copy House primarily serves established businesses, that are 3-5 years, or more, into running a thriving business. They are on a mission to make an impact – while this impact can take many forms – from therapy to helping others find themselves through travel – they all carry the common thread of making the lives of other humans better.
I am a licensed mental health clinician who has loved writing since I learned to read and write. I decided to merge my love of writing and my extensive knowledge of human psychology into a copywriting agency. We craft ads, scripts, websites, sales pages, email marketing funnels, blogs, etc. as a catalyst for growth for each business.
Our clients want to be visible and make connections with their ideal consumer consistently. They want to find direction with their marketing and actually know what words will work for them. They’ve tried everything under the marketing sun and nothing seems to work for them specifically—their website copy and captions are literally collecting dust and they know it’s time for that to change. They are frustrated and tired of blending in amidst a sea of open tabs and copycat messaging. They feel as though they’re screaming into the void, unable to stand out and make a difference in the way they want to.
I believe my clients deserve to be heard so you can continue to make a difference. At Slade Copy House we are here to help them find that warm fuzzy feeling in their heart when they read the words on their website, in their content, and in emails hitting inboxes. We help them FEEL the impact they are making as it oozes from their words. We quite literally turn words into clients for them.
What sets us apart is our extensive knowledge of human science and how the average consumer thinks, behaves, and understanding their buyer persona. We use psychology in ever piece of copy we write so that there is always an element of conversion that will happen.
I’m most proud of building my brand and business from nothing while in the midst of healing from trauma. I was able to hit 6 figures in less than a year of starting my business while in therapy for this trauma and landed brands like Lufthansa Airlines, The Real Housewives, Dove, and more.
I want my consumers to know that we put THEM before the wallet. You’ll never be treated as a ticket to Fiji or just a number. We create a welcoming atmosphere that helps you overcome your obstacles, believe in yourself, and feel loved every step of the way…all while infusing your copy with human science that WORKS.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ll try to condense a very long story into a short version- I was sexually assaulted several years ago by a leader in my church that I trusted. It sent my life into a spiral and affected every part of my mindset, how I felt about myself, what I felt my purpose and worth was (which at the time was nothing) and I eventually decided to end my life because I genuinely believed I was worthless after it happened to me.
I had a gun to my head in my bedroom and all of a sudden my best friend walked into my bedroom (with no warning that she was coming over to check on me) and was able to take the gun from me. I felt like that moment was God telling me I was meant to be here and that it wasn’t time for me to go. He literally saved me that night.
I started therapy the very next day and and that was the whole turning point for me. However, just days after starting therapy, I found out I was pregnant. Fast forward a few weeks, it ended up being ectopic and I had to have emergency surgery. My life was literally falling apart lol I felt like I had nothing left to lose so I quit my job and decided to go HARD in therapy working on my healing and months later, I created my business from nothing. I had no online experience or experience as an entrepreneur but by discovering my worth and realizing I truly and beautifully and wonderfully made with a purpose, I was able to work hard and create a six figure business working with massive brands and it’s only went up.
I founded a successful business in the midst of deep trauma and I’ve never been more proud of myself. I am now more healthy and happy than I’ve ever been and seeing how I’ve been able to work through those traumas and still be successful makes me want to scream to the world that YOU CAN DO IT TOO. You have a purpose, you are meant to be here, and you WILL do great things…if you believe you can.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Most of our clients come through for a one time project like a new website or launch copy for a new program etc. Within our offer suite, we’ve built it that they can continue to stay with us in their journey through retainer copy for things such as blogs to gain visibility on Google and increase SEO ranking, email marketing to continuously nurture their audience, or even social captions and months ads to sell and create a steady stream of leads.
We’ve found having something they can up-level to with us has helped create loyalty. However, not only that, we care about our past and current clients. We repost their things on social, we show off the work we’ve done for them, we hype them up, we refer clients to them when we feel like they could be a good fit, etc.
There is continuous support from Slade Copy House once you’ve walked through our virtual doors :)
