Alright, Haley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My brand’s mission has evolved since when I began. My mission shares my lifestyle, affordable fashion choices from various brands, home finds, bridal suggestions, and more. When I started my page, I was near the end of my college career and looking to share the clothes I loved. But, over the years, it grew into a greater purpose. As my life grew and the components of it, so did my brand’s mission. I own my dream dog, got engaged, and I’m decorating my new home, which makes these things helpful to those who want similar finds at their fingertips.
The story of how I created a vision to share fashion dates back to 2017 when I was a senior in high school. A boutique opened in my hometown, Covington, Georgia. I loved the clothing and the idea that it was the hotspot for all women in the surrounding areas. Everyone I went to school with shopped there or had heard of it. So, when the owner asked me to model the clothing for her store, I was honored. Growing up, my mom told me to go into the modeling industry, as all moms do to support their children. However, when I began modeling their clothes, I saw what all of the hype was about. I loved showcasing various outfits, feeling prideful of getting my picture taken, being known as the “Shelvie Jean Girl” (the store’s name) around town, and buying the outfits I wore, because I knew I had to have them.
A few years later, I graduated college. I came across a few bloggers doing what I did in high school and remembered what it felt like to need the clothing I shared. I knew my creative mind would thrive in doing this and jumped at the opportunity to do it. Fast forward two years later, I’ve been interviewed by well-known magazines, worked with several shopping outlets in Metro-Atlanta, and living a life I didn’t know existed for myself. Why is my mission meaningful? The day I’ve created a legacy for myself is someone I will be proud of.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My mom calls me her little sunshine. While mothers typically call their children that or create an adorable nickname, this was a match. Have you heard the saying, “Never dull your shine?” From ages five to eighteen, I won Little Miss Newton County, starred as the lead role in my school Christmas play, and received an art scholarship. My personality has never shied away from being an extrovert, and taking on creative outlets has allowed me to express my thoughts. Blogging is a competitive channel I use to color-coordinate a vision, copywrite life updates, and inspire my audience with aesthetic choices.
I empathize with my audience and provide tasteful and affordable options from well-known brands. Many creatives lose sight of their audience and may not consider they cannot afford what an influencer budget can. My brand focus is sharing affordable options that all parties can access. The conversation begins when you receive a message, “Hey, I just bought that!” from a mother of two. When it’s obtainable, it’s memorable.
Multiple parties have told me I am wholesome, down-to-earth, and sweet. Of course, the idea is they tell you what you want to hear, but I have experienced first-hand what inauthenticity is. Many creatives allow their following to cloud their humanity. I meet others at an influencer event and feel their numbers create a wall, and I’m on the other side looking in. It’s what sets me apart in this industry. I remain approachable, sweet, and understanding despite my statistics. Unfortunately, this industry intends to form a community, but the entrepreneurs form cliques.
I am most proud of my community involvement. Although my following is still climbing, my brand awareness is not short of those with 10K+. I negotiated my first brand partnership with 3,800 followers, partnered with several Metro Atlanta shopping centers, and attended influencer events, all under 10,000 followers. I take pride in my content and where my attention to detail has taken me.
To know me is to see my determination to stand on my own two feet and build a brand for myself.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being a blogger is receiving comments, messages, or verbal expressions of your audience enjoying what you’re creating. When receiving comments like this, “I’ve never hit “buy now” so quickly. STUNNING!” or “I go bankrupt every time you post something on your page,” can be beyond words. My greatest reward is knowing my audience values what I share and that my artistic take on modern-day fashion can be impactful. Receiving validation on what you’re creating and how it influences a date night, bridal shower, vacation look, or coffee run is astounding. Being the point of contact for outfit advice is more than I could have imagined.
Have you ever had to pivot?
A single moment to change strategy in marketing is simply nonexistent. Social channels are more competitive, and the creative field is over-saturated, causing creators to fight for engagement. I am constantly pivoting my marketing efforts on all platforms and have made a recent impactful adjustment. Google used to be the search engine, THE GUY, everyone would turn to for finding everything from home decor to clothing items. Today, social channels are replacing search engines and are now the go-to spot for research. Keywords have influenced search optimization content and are now one of the top strategies for marketing. My recent KPI review showed my metrics have doubled due to this pivoting moment. The social universe is evolving, and adaptability is rewarded.
