We recently connected with Hakika DuBose Wise and have shared our conversation below.
Hakika, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
One of my first customers was Bobbi Brown of Bobbi Brown cosmetics. I was intrigued by her story and took a deeper dive into how she built her brand. I realized that when you make something after yourself, it really makes it yours. I knew that along the journey , people would attempt to mimic my concept, but one thing they couldn’t do was take my name. Hence the business called Kika Stretch Studios.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I studied as attained dancer and worked professionally in NY for years. I grew bored and wanted to do something more fulfilling. I took a poll with friend and family and asked, should I start a business or go back to school? Most people said go back to school , I saw this as a cap being put to my potential, so I wanted to test it out. I stared a stretching business , based on my training as a dancer and my of the human body. I was the first person to open a stretch studio in the country. I took my last $500 and rented a small room to start. Over time I grew my clientele and began to form a solid method of stretching. Kika Stretch Studios offers 1 on 1 assisted stretching in private rooms on custom mats. Imagine lying on a mat and having a certified coach gently stretch your entire body for you. We help release the tension that’s been trapped inside of the body for years . We are one of the few studios that focus on passive stretching. We also don’t stretch out clients in a crowd all together. We stretch out clients 1 on 1 in private rooms. I am most proud of our ability to scale across the country and provide a consistent method of stretching. I’m also most proud of moving pass peoples self limiting beliefs about my potential and creating a brand of stretching that has helped change lives. Our brand helps improve the quality of our clients lives and we are more than thrilled to continue this life impacting journey.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been perfecting the product, so we deliver a consistent experience each and every time..
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One of my favorite books is “The Obstacle is The Way” it teaches that each obstacle is the guide to your next destination, so you must embrace it, move past it, and stay on course so you hit your goal.
