We were lucky to catch up with Hair Magic Studio recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hair Magic Studio, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
While we love our roles as Hairstylists in the industry we believe our magical space does set us apart from the industry standard. We have combined our love for healing and hair and believe this makes our space quite unique. Instead of offering only the common salon services we have combined them with the magic of energy healing. Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of energy healing that allows the practitioner to transfer energy from and throughout the body. Through the healing properties of Reiki we are able to bring our clients comfort, peace and guidance. As Reiki healers we remove bad energy and replenish energy where you’ve been depleted. We use many different tools and crystals to aid in the healing process and the entire experience is quite relaxing. Choosing to offer Reiki gave us the ability to heal both hair and energy on a more intimate level. While this was not commonly seen in the beauty industry within our community we felt the healing we already offered could be so much more. This difference mattered to us because our clients matter to us. Their quality of life matter to us. That’s why it doesn’t stop at hair when you come to Hair Magic Studio. By healing your energy and keeping you balanced and beautiful we are able to celebrate all of your milestones with you. We care about your accomplishments, your struggles and everything in between. We want to share in your happiness and guide you through life’s obstacles. Thanks to Reiki we can do all of these things. Through Reiki we’re able to help you heal into the most beautiful version of yourself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are just two sisters who love the magic of hair and healing! While our story is long the message of our space is simple. It’s a safe space for all people where hate isn’t welcome and hair and healing collide. We offer beautiful blonding services, mermaid hair, color transformations, haircuts, reiki healing and more. The magic has no limits within the walls of our space. Come feel safe, seen and welcome at Hair Magic Studio!
Have you ever had to pivot?
The birth of our Salon is a really great example of a time where we had to unexpectedly pivot and we actually have Covid to thank for that. After the Covid shutdown we returned to our old salon which at the time was over crowded with cabin fever humans wanting to escape lockdown. The social distancing was impossible and we feared the safety of ourselves, family and clients. In an effort to find a bigger salon with more space we stumbled upon our now salon home. It was vacant and felt very unrealistic. Since there was a number posted on the door we decided to call it and inquire about pricing, because why not! When we found out it would be just as much to rent an entire salon than what we currently paid for two chairs the impossible seemed a lot more possible! We decided to take a chance, we jumped off the deep end and bought our salon! In a months time we were fully licensed, insured, decorated and ready to open our doors. Without Covid we may have never decided to pivot in the direction we did and so for that we are grateful!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think what helped us build our reputation within the market was being true and honest always. With hair it meant being true to our authentic selves and learning how to respect who we were. Trying to be people we weren’t didn’t attract our ideal clientele and the thing we loved would feel more like work or a chore. We were also honest about everything within our career. We know the science behind hair and we respect it and our clients know they can trust us. We also stay educated and active in the industry. With Reiki and energy healing we became what other people in our community had been searching for. We feared the lack of Reiki in our area meant the lack of interest but instead it meant the amount of people who needed our safe space to exist. We embraced who we were and people followed. For that, we are forever grateful.
