Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hailey Sparks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hailey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Is there a lesson you learned in school that’s stuck with you and has meaningfully impacted your journey?
In every schooling I went through, it was very clear to me that education is only what you make it to be. In the hair world you are constantly learning and cosmetology school is pretty much the basics. So I try to take advantage of all free classes that I feel with help me and I also try to teach what I feel I know to help others. Never stop learning, if you do you stop growing! This lesson has stuck with me because there are always new techniques and tools in hair that I love to learn about.
Hailey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Hailey Sparks, and I have been doing hair for 4 years! But I have known since I was very young that I wanted to do something in the beauty industry. I currently specialize in vivid colors and corrections, because I love a good challenge! I love seeing the transformation in my clients hair over time, how healthy we can get their hair or how the color gets closer to their goal. I currently work at white rabbit salon in bearden which has been amazing over the past year! I try to make my space as welcoming and understanding as possible!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
On new years eve 2017 I was laid off a long with all of my coworkers as they were shutting down the business. I was not passionate about the job and I had become complacent with it. Losing that job gave me the nudge I needed to enroll in cosmetology school and get my career started. I went from just doing my own hair at home to being completely surrounded in hair and quickly was reinforced that it was what I wanted to do. Losing that job was a blessing in disguise! Now I love what I do and wish I had done it sooner.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I do believe that my reputation in my market was and is built by being open to criticism and being open to adjustments if someone is not happy with their hair. There are many things in hair that do not always go to plan. I always tell clients if anything doesn’t feel right to let me know so I can get them back in for an adjustment. I always want people to feel their best and making a small adjustment after an appointment eases peoples minds sometimes!
