We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hailey Hodapp. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hailey below.
Hi Hailey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Currently, my parents are happily married and living in Littleton Colorado. However, it hasn’t always been that way. My parents split up when I was in third grade and my mom raised my sister and I as a single mom for many years. As most of us know having multiple kids on a single income is very challenging. And my mom did a wonderful job Making it seem like we were thriving even if we weren’t. Making dinners that were very cost-effective seem like the most extravagant meal. Doing free activities like going to the park or being outside as much as possible so we were never bored. when it came to work ethic my mom has always been one of the most driven people that I know. She always showed me that no matter what you get up and do what you need to do to provide for your family. She created an environment where we were involved in her work environment as well. We would help her at work. We would come to her office with her and clean, etc. We were always a part of her daily life and in my career I have made it a point to include my family in my passion and make sure that they know not only where I am when I’m away but what I’m doing and why I care about it so much. I attribute a lot of my work ethic to what my mom showed me throughout my childhood .

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Hailey. I am from Denver Colorado originally. I currently live in Bree Belgium. I am a hairstylist, creative, Director, runway, producer, educator, and all-around hype woman. I have a humongous passion for natural hair and making sure everyone walking this planet knows just how magnificent they are. I started doing hair in 2013. In my career has taken me to so many places I have worked in multiple salon environments I have owned salons. I have done New York fashion week I have done Miami swim week. I have done North American Hair AwArds. I have also worked backstage at multiple Kevin Murphy hair shows, Kevin Murphy is an Australian hair care company that I currently educate for I have been with them for about nine years. I have done editorial commercial and been on video sets. In 2020 I began to take my love and passion for fashion into directing runway shows and producing for Denver fashion week. as well as art directing for their editorial campaigns. I truly believe that through trends in fashion and hair, and make up we see the pulse of society. It is always impacted by current events and where the attention is focused on my true passion. Behind each aspect, I involve myself in is the people. I call myself everyone’s hype woman, because I truly believe that, when each of us believe in ourselves, we can do anything we put our minds to. And if we all celebrate each other’s differences and encourage them to be their true selves, the world would be an even more extraordinary place.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2018 in the middle of owning an operating a salon in Denver Colorado. Life was on top of the world. I was making amazing money. I was very happy and felt like I had it all together and isn’t that what they say that’s when the worst happens. I came into work one day and my business partner at the time told me that she no longer wanted to be in business with me, and that we needed to take me off of the business. This was an insane shocking as I have two kids and it was not expecting this from her. After about 3 to 6 months of back-and-forth, paying off credit cards and moving things around, I decided to pivot remove myself completely from the salon… Cold turkey. Move to a different part of town and start over Renting a chair and someone else’s salon. This may seem like a small pivot to some but at the time it was life altering. These large changes in life are often a blessing in disguise. This was one of the best possible things that could’ve happened because a global pandemic was about to shock the world and I am so glad that I did not own a large business during that time. The biggest lesson here was that I needed to trust the timing.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think A huge part of having a reputation is being consistent. Most of my career was centered around Denver, Colorado. However, I was able to broaden my connections into all of the US and different parts of the world because of the Australian hair care company that I work for. However, I just believe that Being a consistent person is the best way to build a reputation within not only fashion but in hair. Making sure that you are consistent in learning constantly I think that if I’ve ever even made a mistake, I will always own up and understand that I need to learn this goes with verbiage. This goes with technique. We all can always learn more so I think consistency and always trying to elevate is the best possible way to build a strong reputation when people know that you’re doing your absolute best, and you communicate that .
