We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hagit Pincovici a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hagit, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I was born into a family of entrepreneurs. My grandfather, who founded the family business of Plexiglas, was also the first artisan in Tel Aviv to make those sheets. My father, who continued the family business, developed the importation of the material from abroad. Therefore, entrepreneurship, craft and design were my surroundings since my childhood. My studies brought me to Italy and America, where my passion for craftsmanship is being expressed through experiments with materials, tactile experience together with “architectural”, clean forms.
Hagit, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I founded my bespoke luxury furniture and lighting atelier in year 2014. Known for a rich color and material palette, and a devotion to the geometric forms found in modern art. Since 2019, I turned my attention to nature, inspired by the botanical forms and striking landscape of my native Israel. Materiality has always played a strong role, from an initial focus on marble, brass and lacquer to a more recent exploration of sandstone and cast aluminum. The recent collections are a result of some experiments I made with bronze and aluminum cast, allowing each piece to be unique.
For each handmade piece, I collaborate personally and directly with a family of artisans in the heart of the furniture district of Brianza, outside Milan.
My collectible designs are being represented by The Future Perfect, Dimore Gallery, Studio Twentyseven and Galerie Philia.
In May 2022, The collection “Third Nature”, a collaboration with Kelly Wearstler, was launched.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I began collaborating with Baxter, a major Italian design brand, in 2017. Our cooperation consisted in a collection, which was expressed by the lacquered wood, brass and marble.
The owner, Paolo Bestetti, was very happy with the collection but was concerned about lacquer production.
It was already at the end of January, the fair would begin two months later.
Since the collaboration was extremely important to me, I assured Paolo that the production would be done under my supervision with my craftsmen, in order to make all this possible to perfection.
This meant sleepless nights and much stress until the opening day, but it was worth it.
The collection won a few design awards.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Expressing my creativity has been my dream, having the “luxury” of living from it and in it is a pleasure, even when there are sleepless nights and lots of sweat.
I realized quite at an early stage that the work consists long hours of dealing with details that have nothing to do with creativity. : )
The fun part is being constantly exposed to various forms of arts, in order to get inspired, I do that with great passion.
Along with that, I believe that each of us should find the source which arouses inspiration and the creativity in self.
In my case it’s Gaga dancing and the Desert.
