We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hag Productions a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
HAG, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Since our back-porch inception, we haven’t stopped creating—producing over five short films, filming a web series, and serving as associate producers on an indie feature film. However, one of the projects that holds the most meaning for us is our debut feature film, Against Us, which is currently in development. It is our perfect alchemy, symbolizing our evolution from a simple idea on a porch to a dynamic production company. It represents our growth, our story, our experience, and our ambitions woven together to tell our story. It is our gold—the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Against Us is a Southern Gothic story that blends psychological horror with a female-driven narrative. It explores grief, revenge, and obsession with youth in a fantastical cult setting where it unveils how the vulnerable are preyed upon for power.
The film is more than just a project; it’s the culmination of our experiences, our struggles, and our shared ambitions. It’s a testament to our resilience, creativity, and determination to break barriers in the indie film industry. With Against Us, we aim to inspire others and pave the way for diverse voices and stories to be heard, leaving a lasting impact on the world of filmmaking.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Our journey began two years ago on an Alabama back porch with a group of ambitious actors wanting to take control of their careers. So, we decided to make a who-dun-it short film, with no idea how this could change our lives. This short film sparked an entire movement—HAG. HAG is for everyone.
We are a women-led, independent production company that creates opportunities to tell every story. We strive to create equity in filmmaking by offering opportunities both in front of and behind the camera, opportunities often overlooked in mainstream media. HAG does not believe in gatekeeping. We believe in giving creatives the chance to reach their full potential. The stories we create have and will continue to reflect that mindset.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
There are many ways to support creatives: follow them, support their art, be vocal about their projects, and engage with their content. Creativity takes courage, so we should commend fellow creatives by championing and supporting their work.
This cycle of support and inspiration ensures that the next generation of creatives has the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. Everyone deserves the chance to tell their story.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our goal is to disrupt traditional filmmaking by creating a space where diverse voices, particularly those of women and underrepresented creatives, can thrive. We strive to foster a community-driven environment that is open, supportive, and free from gatekeeping, providing opportunities for filmmakers who might not otherwise have access.
At its core, the goal is to tell authentic, impactful stories that reflect the creators’ visions while pushing the boundaries of the indie film space. HAG aims to make lasting change in the industry, driven by collaboration, grit, and the belief that anyone can create art if given the right opportunity.
