Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hadassah Vincent. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hadassah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
How did it start?? What a loaded question, lol! Well, in my heart of hearts, I’ve honestly always loved planning, organizing, creating, making things pretty, bringing people together, etc. It started pretty much at a young age that started with my own personal birthday parties. My mother insisted on having a party for my birthday every year. I didn’t really care to have a celebration on my behalf, but I did like planning and executing the party. Ever since then, doing parties/events was always fun for me. As tiring and daunting as it can be, I genuinely enjoy it. Then in 2020, along with 3 other friends, we all decided to start our own businesses. So I decided to start a press-on nail business. I’ve always been creative and was getting my nails done at the nail salon since I was a teenager, so I figured why not dabble into the nail industry. Regardless of how saturated it was (and still is). So the process began…coming up with a name, brand colors, doing my website, getting inventory, watching endless videos on how to perfect my craft, etc. It took me about 8 months to get as much as I could have, before feeling “ready” enough to launch. So on Cyber Monday of 2020, I launched Affluently Pressed! I did have a major setback during the preparation period though…I had to change my name. Originally the name I came up with was Royally Pressed Nails. I looked on the world wide web to see if there was anything that came up with that name and it didn’t, so I thought it was good. So after ordering personalized bags and boxes, etc with Royally Pressed Nails, I stumbled upon a video of an influencer that suggested looking on social media first before picking a business name. So I went right to IG and there it was. About 4 or 5 other “Royally Pressed” businesses that also did press on nails. I was crushed! But I quickly got over it and picked a new name expeditiously. So Affluently Pressed was born.

Hadassah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Hadassah and I create products that reinvent your hands and bring them back to life. So first and foremost, my “main” products are press-on nails. I create beautiful designs from blank canvases based on things that I’ve seen for inspiration or think about from my head. The thing I came to realize when looking at different businesses is that you have to try your best to stand out or give people something they need. So in developing my press-on nail business, it came to me, almost from the beginning, that you can have beautiful nails but if your hands are crusty or ashy, that will be an eyesore and take away from the nails itself. Have you ever seen a commercial with someone showing off nails or rings and their hands itself aren’t up to par?? Absolutely not! So why would I sell nails and not have other products to help enhance the nails once they’re on your hands? That’s why my business is all about the hands, not just the nails. I sell organic hand-based products that all go together to give your hands the rejuvenation it needs. My product lineup, besides for press-on nails, is hand soap, a hand mask, hand cream, hand scrub, and cuticle oil. Some of the things I noticed having nails (for anyone who wears them) is the daunting task of using debit or credit cards at ATM’s and gas stations. Having to slip your card in and out of those is not an easy task with additional nails on. So being that I thought of this and try my best to think of all the ways I can truly help my customers, what I do is give a card grabber and stylus with any first order. Both have the ability to be added to keys, as they are the keychain versions. I know personally that this is one of the main problems for my customers and made it my duty to help them in any way possible.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
In my opinion, the best source of new clients for me were when I sent out products to influencers. Not all of them received them or even put out a video with the products, but the ones who took the time to receive them and post them, I truly appreciate. A few of my customers have also come from word-of-mouth and pop up shops. Having customers try my hand products such as my scrubs and creams were the best form of selling my products. The results always gets people to purchase.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Well, now that I am mostly doing events, ticket prices for those events are one of the most draining factors. People truly don’t understand how much money goes into an event. From the venue to the speakers to the photographers to the videographers to the caterers and the staff…it all adds up. Not to mention the decor! Almost all my events I’ve never made a profit. I think that people think I’m making so much money doing these events, but at the end of the day, there is usually not much profit in them for me. All the money goes right back into all those mentioned previously. I still do my events and will continue to do them in hopes that eventually, once people hear that I’m throwing an event, they will purchase a ticket without hesitation. At the end of the day, I genuinely enjoy doing my events and bringing people together is very satisfying for me.
