We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful H.A. Pruitt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with H.A. below.
H.A., appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my Anelthalien Series. It is an eight book series, and at this time, I have all the books handwritten, have four published, and am working on publishing the fifth book and a companion book to the Anelthalien Series.
The series means so much to me because when I was a kid and life at home was hard, I would go outside and pretend to go to another world called Anelthalien. It was my place to escape to. In my imaginary world, I would talk to God, and He would give me stories that helped me feel better so I could go back to the real world. When I grew up and God told me to start writing the series, He used it in the same way. Every time I wrote more in the series, and now every time I read over a book to edit it or for fun, God uses the story to speak to something specific in my life. It feels like diving into an amazing fantasy world so far from anything here in this world, but then God tells a story within it, and that story so precisely reflects what I’m going through that I know He cares, and sees, and wants to fill me with His truth and light so I can be brave with His strength in this dark world. The Anelthalien Series has grown me spiritually and deepened my relationship with God.

H.A., before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an author and an editor not by my intention. I have always loved making up stories and drawing them or playing the stories outside, but I didn’t seek out the job of an author or editor.
My favorite story to play was going to my pretend world of Anelthalien, and when I was coming to the end of my college career to become an art educator, I thought it would be fun to try to write the story of Anelthalien. I had just written a two hundred page paper for my capstone project, so I thought I could write it. When I tried to come up with ideas for Anelthalien, though, I couldn’t. The outlines and plans I tried to write were a terrible mess and made no sense.
One day when I was praying about something different, God told me to just start writing Anelthalien. I did, and without a plan or even idea of where it was going, I wrote Anelthalien. God gave me the story, and I wrote the first book. God continued giving the story, so I continued writing.
I did not even consider publishing Anelthalien, but God told me to publish it and share it with others, so I started trying to figure out how to do that. I didn’t even know self-publishing existed at that point, but with much help from my husband and much direction and rerouting from God, I published Anelthalien, the first book in the Anelthalien Series, with a hybrid publisher. That publisher taught me about publishing and marketing, and I was able to publish my next book independently.
Since then, I’ve continued learning from other authors, from experience, and from anything I can to grow as a writer, publishing author, and a marketing presence on social media. Along the way, I had some less than stellar experiences with editors, and so I decided to study editing so that I could technically edit my own books so that they would appear as professional as possible. I began helping some friends edit their books, and around the same time they began paying me simply because they were grateful for the help, God encouraged me to make the editing into a business.
Now I offer editing services to other authors. I offer two rounds of editing including developmental editing, content editing, copyediting, and proofreading as a package for $.008 per word.
I am most grateful that God chose me as the one to write the story of Anelthalien and share it with the world. I can’t express how much this series and becoming an author and editor has grown me as a person, but God has used it all to do so much in me, and I know He will use it to grow others.
The books that are available right now are Anelthalien: Anelthalien Book One, Earth Quaking: Anelthalien Book Two, Water Falling: Anelthalien Book Three, Water Rising: Anelthalien Book Four, and the Anelthalien Coloring Book. Book Five and Elores and Sipora (a companion book to the Anelthalien Series) are set to release in the spring and summer of 2026. Anyone interested in the books or reading little daily devotionals can follow me on Instagram @hapruitt, Facebook on my page Anelthalien HAPruitt, and my YouTube channel HAPruitt Anelthalien, which has book review videos and videos about creating books.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an author is when someone gets the message in my books. When readers tell me that my books helped them through a difficult time, or a quote turned their focus back to God during a struggle, or that the story meant something to them in any way, it lets me know that God used me to share His truth, and that is everything to me. Knowing my books connect people to God is the best part of being an author.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The most helpful action society can do do support creatives is to share about them. For authors, that can mean posting a book review on different platforms (where they bought the book and on social media). Book reviews help authors in a way authors can’t help themselves. They tell other potential readers if they would like the book, lend reader credibility to the book, provide feedback on if readers like the book, and tell the algorithm to show more people the book. Even a few words can make an big difference for authors.
Readers can also tell their friends about authors. They can do this face to face or on social media. One reader saying, “Hey, I liked this book!” carries so much influence anywhere.
Also, readers can follow authors on social media. Creative can be moody and question themselves, so knowing we have followers, seeing a positive comment on a post we wrote, or finding out someone shared our content to their story reminds us that people do care and like what we do. It reminds us that our creations make a difference. Knowing we have an audience boosts our morale to keep creating.
