We recently connected with Gwendolyn Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Gwendolyn , appreciate you joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
One of my heartwarming stories was ,when I had my stroke ,and I couldn’t walk. I went to therapy at CNS in Webster, Texas. The day I took my first steps in therapy, I was crying ,and I look around the room all the staff and patients were crying with me ,and cheering me on.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the ceo/ Founder of the Roy L Jackson Community Outreach Center. A non profit 501c3 organization. That was birthed in the memory of my Dad who passed from Lung CANCER in 2015. Our Mission is to provide case management and Outreach services to cancer survivors/ thrivers for them and their families. I was diagnosed with stage IV Cervical Cancer in 2020 ,but it does not stop me from inspiring, advocating and giving others hope.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have had 3 strokes, 2 heart attacks and I am battling stage IVb Cervical Cancer but, I keep showing up for others and myself . I enjoy hosting healthfairs me and Lindsay Gullatte-Lee . My organization helps Cancer patients get furniture, food, and comforting them with chemotherapy care packages.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I am author.
I have written 2 books.
The first book is called “The Last Seven Days” It is my personal story . I shared the last seven days of my days life in hospice care. I let you inside what I went through the last seven days of my father’s life and watching him pass from lung cancer. I share my emotions, my pain and my grief before and after his death.
My second book is “Granny’s Cool Haircut ”
I wrote this book with my 6 year old grandson. He was 4 at the time we wrote it. I was so scared on what he was going to say when I lose my hair from chemotherapy. I know sometimes kids can be cruel, but he was so kind. He said I had Cool Haircut
