Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gwendolyn Cody-Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gwendolyn, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I have always been a sensitive, compassionate person. Even at a young age, these qualities I was unaware of at the time seemed to be part of my makeup.
Growing up I never liked to see others in any kind of pain, and I was always willing to lend a helping hand. In my adulthood, I now find those same qualities are near and dear and I am adamant about encouraging others to do well.
I love serving others. Giving back is very important to me. Giving my time and resources to causes that I feel led to serve has become my priority.
I am a dreamer and it has become my mission to encourage others, especially my peers to pursue their dreams. My message through my books and my social media platforms is to let others know, it does not matter your age or stage. We have God-given dreams, a destiny, and a purpose to fulfill.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a servant-leader of the Lord, Jesus Christ. I have been a minister for the last 30 years, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Fellowship Chairperson, New Member’s Facilitator, Women’s Retreat Coordinator, International Women Conference Chairperson, and many other capacities. While my husband was active in the U.S. Army, our military assignments allowed me to serve in ministry, along with him in Belgium twice, Italy, South Carolina, and lastly in Virginia.
In 2015, my pastor, Bishop C.E. Wiley, Sr. prophesied the authorship into my life. Prior to that day, I had never thought about becoming an author. However, at that moment, I began to pray and ask the Lord to reveal my assignment. This is literally how I got into my industry.
Self-publishing became my main interest after accepting the role to be an author. My husband, Randy, and I are the founders of NOMOLAC, LLC. The purpose of our company is to self-publish our books and to expand in the near future to publish the books of other authors.
The business discipline for NOMOLAC, LLC is dedicated to conducting market research prior to promoting products and services. This practice makes us aware of what is on the minds of consumers and possible clients.
NOMOLAC, LLC offers our clients, inspirational books, such as “Love Letters from the Mum,” “Mum’s Petals: A Journal for your Journal,” and the upcoming book, Finishing Strong ~ Strategies For Baby Boomers To Transform Dreams Into Realities to be released March 31, 2023.
We also offer book accessories such as the Love Letter Therapy Throw, writing stationery, love notes, and encouraging note cards.
NOMOLAC, LLC is also looking forward to launching a coaching program to inspire our clients to pursue their dreams. We believe what sets us apart from others is that our desire is for our clients to have a positive experience reading and writing, including journaling. We believe our products help set an atmosphere of not only expanding knowledge through books but also having the ability to have creative peaceful times to recharge and reset.
I am most proud of the first thing I am known for: my heart-warming encouraging gift. Through this gift, I have connected to many people on my social platforms and in in-person events. I am delighted to use the online space to encourage others on a daily basis, as well as to expand and grow my business.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Growing my business on social media is an exciting journey, though it started slow and small. I have absolutely no shame in the tiny steps that were taken. I believe in the power of small beginnings. My first author coach was Tressa Azarel Smallwood, Chief Executive Officer at Megamind Media. Tressa was the first person to tell me I needed to make my Instagram page public. I was not that trusting, and growing an audience in the online space was so new to me. I trusted Tressa’s advice and I am now comfortable with my decision.
On Instagram, I have met a lot of people that are doing what I do, and I have met so many business-minded people that are inspired by what I do. For some of us business owners we met on Instagram and then at an in-person, and for others, we met at in-person events, and we immediately started following, celebrating, and supporting each other on the platform.
However, my primary audience is on Facebook which is the first platform I joined. I joined before I ever imagined I would be an author and business owner. I was probably the last person in my family to connect on Facebook. Even at that time, my goal was to make a difference and to provide those who visited my page with love, joy, and peace.
A few months before publishing my first book “(LLFTM)”, I created a second Facebook account and named it after the book. That proved to be very successful. I love to greet the community that I hope I inspire—I called them Warriors because our lives are filled with spiritual battles. It has been noted that warriors are very courageous and are generally associated with two kinds of courage: (1) the ability to fight to protect themselves and (2) setting goals and developing the strength and skills to accomplish them.
My advice for someone building an audience on social media it to make sure you have the self-confidence and the highest belief in your brand. Remember, the ball is in your court. You have the right to maintain your peaceful environment and gain respect as well. And lastly, do not allow the outliers to discourage your mission.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I do not believe any business can survive without a social media presence. I am very blessed to be able to reach out to provide positive messages 365 days a year on Facebook and Instagram. I am looking forward to reconnecting on Twitter and Linkedin as well.
It is important for business to have a strong social media presence. The ability to strategically plan to be as effective as possible is a plus as well. Each day I ask the Lord what what kind of encouragement, inspiration, and motivation is needed for the people who will pause to receive.
It is my goal each day to listen, obey and send out the most uplifting content through my post. Some days it might be personal, some days business, but all days, positive vibes and encouragement.
I realize that a social media platform is designed to reach current customers and attract future ones. I have been coached to pay special attention to what my customers are saying on social media about my business, my brand, and my product.
I believe interacting with your audience is essential to be connected to them. Networking with others is something I do not shy away from at all. Having conversations with my audience makes them feel special and I want them to know that they are special to me.
I am so proud when I have customers who purchase more than one product. I call it “MuM it Up”. It makes it all worthwhile. It lets me know they like it, and when you like something, you want to share it with others. That is brand loyalty to me.
The best moments for me are when someone shares what I have shared with others. It places such a smile on my face and in my heart.
