Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gwendolyn Blake. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gwendolyn , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Being a Body Piercer is the most fun, exciting job I have ever had! I have always had some type of clerical/management position. Although I am good at that, it just wasn’t fulfilling. At times I would have to remind myself I had bills to pay and had to go to work.
When Covid-19 hit, I was an operations manager for a local residential cleaning company. I was laid off and out of work for over a year.
Being a single Mom you can imagine the stress building up.
I applied to be Shop Manager at Body Language Custom Ink in Orlando,Fl.
Got hired and that’s how it all began.
The shop was so busy and the owner, Robby Tatz was the only piercer. He would have to stop tattooing or turn away piercings. So he suggested I get certified as a body piercer.
I did and couldn’t be more happy with my career choice..
I absolutely LOVE my job and the smiles of my clients when we are finished.
I never not want to go to work. It’s really not work to me, it’s a passion.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have been told I make my clients piercing experience fun and comfortable. I am great with first timers and minors. I explain every step of the way, get them to take deep breathes and give them a personalized diamond stress ball to squeeze if needed.
I make sure they fully understand aftercare instructions. And know that I am accessible afterwards if needed.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
For social media, with consent, I take pictures of all my work and make nice collages to post. I will also record videos of me piercing. The platforms I use most are Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
I run piercing specials during the week and will boost them on Instagram.
This is a great way to let people know you exist.
My followers love seeing photos and videos of them on my social media sites.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My driving goal is to provide the best life possible for my son, Chris. He deserves the best and my career is helping me accomplish this goal. Everything I do, I do it for him.
