We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Guy Wassermann. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Guy below.
Guy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
I believe that big part of a successful business management is involvement, Being involved with Workers and with clients no matter how challenging it is and in same time, it is the best example for workers to know how to face different situations.
Another important manner is to show appreciation to the once in the field as they are the engine of the system.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In the Age of 22, I Joined a small company who operates Retail promo stores on a Cruise line which started their way in the Cruise ships industry not long before that time. The mission was to promote small and unknown brands of Skin care.
I was always passionate about sales , retail and communication.
As a worker, I always had the discipline to give the best of attention to the company need and to the customers at same time.
After a few years of experience , I have joined the management and used my experience from the field to share it with the new hires who just started their way.
At that time we have managed 9 promo stores which was placed on different cruise ships, located in different countries around Europe, Mostly Italy, Germany and France.
Since I started to manage we have created our own brand and doubled our number of stores which became permanent as part of Retail department onboard cruise ships.
When started I knew that my goal is to help people to grow and learn the same discipline which brought me to the place where I lead proudly the company.
Making it by yourself means you can make it easier for others.
Our Brand, Individuel Genève, based on ingredients from the best source the world can offer, the earth, without interrupting the creation, vegan and Eco-friendly.
The Skin care industry is loaded with big variance and most of brands are treating the market like it is a competition, I think it is wrong, Each brand having their own niche and in the moment they will understand that, one can’t do what the other, it is unique, same like each one of us.
I believe that there is enough space for growth when following and understanding needs of the population and it doesn’t matter what product you are offering, not all needing or liking the same, The growth of population requires more options, as the most used essentials now adays already knows, some People likes Samsung and some Are with Apple, one of them can’t serve the needs of all.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My way of managing my team, even though we are talking about more then 50 Workers, spreaded in 5 Continents with different time zones is to give personal attention to all, which is making me available around the clock, even while traveling which it’s what I’m doing 70% of my time. I am constantly following up, listening and supporting my teams.
My advice is instead of being focused to keep everything under control which is one rough Mission, Focus on time management and give the attention to the people who need it the most as priorities set up is the most important part.
I believe that giving Motivation to improve instead of being harsh is a main role on keeping the teams happy and loyal,
Give good words when they do good job and teach how to avoid mistakes before they do them.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Some people saying that being Resilient is personality while I think it’s something each one can learn how to be.
In December 2020, I have recieved a call that Most of the ships we are operating our stores at, will stop sailing due to a pandemic that no one knew nothing about in that time.
It was a big hit but in same time, it gave me space and time to rethink about all the changes and improvements I can make while I have more time to do so.
Post Pandemic challenges were mainly on man Power as many people have changed their lives and looked for different opportunities, the tourism section was hitted big time.
No one had idea if the people will be back after a year and half of shut down in our industry and recruiting new once wouldn’t be affective as I didn’t have where to allocate them.
During that time, I was focused on finding opportunities for our teams so they can stay with us and on same time understanding we are taking care of them professionally and personally.
This actions have consequences, in this case the affect was very positive and built our trust and their loyalty.
