We were lucky to catch up with Guy Viau recently and have shared our conversation below.
Guy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Hi Everyone, I have been fortunate enough to make a nice living with my headshot / portrait, fashion photography work for the past 20 years. My photography was recognized and supported initially with actors and models’ agents and managers referring their clients to me. I believe they saw my photography as unique. I have always been able to answer my clients’ specific needs and add my experience and creativity in the process. Then word of mouth ensued, everyone I worked with would share their positive experience with their friends and colleagues. Eventually as the word spread, many in the corporate world started calling, and my corporate headshot photography snowballed and I acquired a solid reputation in the corporate world. My specialized photography is providing strong and effective headshots that have style and really look professional. So individuals no matter what field they’re in who are looking for the next level type of headshot photography are my clientele.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I worked as a fashion model full time all over the world for more than 15 years. I worked with some of the best stylists, makeup artists, art directors and photographers in their respective fields. I have worked in front of the camera for editorials, commercial campaigns, and I’ve also booked as talent more than 70 T. V. commercials. My unique experience has trained me to know about all aspects of headshot, portraiture and fashion photography. Now having been a full time photographer for the past 20+ years and working with around 13,000 individuals, our photo sessions are always guaranteed to be a success. One of the most important things about my work is I absolutely love working with people and I love what I do. I always feel a great sense of pride in the outcome of my work.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Like I’ve mentioned before, when you love what you do, resilience comes naturally.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is always to answer the specific needs of my clients, my mission is always to do a little more than what is expected of me.
