We recently connected with Guy Holmes III and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Guy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Being a creative you’re going to have to take a lot of risks. In the beginning you will have to invest you time and money into your vision, and you may not receive any help but that’s okay. Most people won’t see YOUR vision, which is perfectly fine, but keep going and don’t stop till you see it through. There will be nights you won’t sleep, days you won’t eat, and weeks you won’t be able to hang out with friends or family. The sacrifices will be big but so is the risk so go for it.
Guy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the industry starting off as a freestyle hip hop dancer. From there I went on to travel the world and teach dance classes and book many jobs on tv and dancing background for different celebrities. With all that going on I always was into fashion and looking presentable wherever I went. I started my own clothing brand to take on the road with me as I travel to teach and dance on tours. From there I learned to created content hanging around YouTube such as D Trix and Ryan Higa. People enjoyed having me around because I was unapologetically myself and I brought value to the business partnership or friendship. I learned how to adapt quickly in this industry which helped me in the long run. Knowing how to take this formula and apply it to any industry helped me advance in my journey.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Hell yeah! I want to be financially stable enough to be able to provide my family with the resources they need to build their empires. I’m heavy on helping people as much as I can and I know I have the talent and personality a lot of people don’t have. People f**k with me off the strength of me, so I try to use that to bring my friends and family up as well. My little brother is in jail and has been there for 10+ years and he’s getting out soon, I want to be in a place where I can help him get on his feet in this new world once he gets out. Things are not the same as they use to be and I want to be a pilar in helping him come into society and be better and also love a better life.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn quickly that everybody don’t want to see you win. No matter how close they are to you, no matter who they are to you, there are people out there that will laugh and smile in your face and at the same time pray for your downfall. I thought because I was loving, caring, and genuine that everybody else would be too .. Naw! Not the care at all. Sometimes your light can shine so bright that it blinds the people beside you and you might want to dim it so they can see their own light but they shit turns into jealousy on their behalf. Stay true to you if your light shines bright stand next to others who lights shine just as bright.
