We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Guri Stark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Guri, appreciate you joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
Whether you are an artist, a musician or an author – the best thing people can do for you is to recognize the beauty of your art or your creations. More than actual payment – acknowledgement and recognition is what makes me drive my art forward. And when it came to my art lectures – it was fantastic when, so many times, people came to me and told me how my lectures changed their life or their understanding of art or their willingness to go to museums – this is the best “return on investment”
Guri, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been in the field of High-tech for over 40 years. I served in executive positions including CEO and General Manager. But along side my high-tech career I have always been an artist. I paint pictures in watercolors, I play music and over the last 20+ years I have been giving lectures about artists and the history of art. Recently, after I retired from my high-tech career I have focused my life on my long-time passion – art, music and writing/publishing books. My paintings – I paint only in watercolors. That is the medium I am most comfortable with. But my style is different than the “normal” watercolor style/ My colors are very saturated, which takes a lot of efforts to achieve. I consider my style expresionistic – since I do not paint from nature. I paint my feeling, my thoughts, my dreams
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I believe art is the best common denominator for all people of all types. regardless, of gender, politics, religion, country of origin – art is what unites us. My mission is to bring people together through art.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As previously said, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist, a musician or an author is customer feedback. Not necessarily the monetary aspect, but more the interaction with the viewers, hearing their reactions to my art, hearing what they see in it and how it impacts their feelings
