We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gullie Lamont a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gullie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
:At Grown Kids Music Group, we’re all about taking risks and pushing boundaries in the music industry. As the owner, Gullie Lamont, I’ve built this label with the intention of stepping out from under the umbrella of major labels and establishing our own unique presence in the sync licensing world. Drawing inspiration from legends like Berry Gordy, I recognized the opportunity to cultivate talent and curate a diverse catalog of music tailored specifically for sync licensing across various genres and sectors. Since our official launch in November 2023, we’ve already made significant strides, signing with three major libraries and expanding our roster with remarkable talent. Our focus on urban modern sounds that resonate with this generation has caught the attention of music supervisors, production houses, and networks alike. We’re not just providing music; we’re creating experiences that bring stories to life.

Gullie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At Grown Kids Music Group, we’re driven by a passion for music and a commitment to excellence in the sync licensing industry. My journey into this field began with a deep-seated love for music and a desire to carve out a space where creativity thrives. As an artist and entrepreneur, I saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, which led to the inception of Grown Kids Music Group.
Our company specializes in providing top-tier music solutions for various media projects, including commercials, films, TV shows, and more. We offer a diverse range of services, from original composition to music curation, ensuring that our clients receive tailor-made solutions to meet their specific needs.
What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. We’re not just providing music; we’re crafting experiences that captivate audiences and elevate storytelling to new heights. Our team of talented artists and composers bring a wealth of experience and creativity to every project, ensuring that each piece of music is unique and impactful.
I’m incredibly proud of the strides we’ve made since our inception. From securing partnerships with major libraries to expanding our roster with remarkable talent, every achievement represents a step forward in our mission to redefine the sync licensing landscape.
Ultimately, what I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know about Grown Kids Music Group is that we’re more than just a music label; we’re a creative powerhouse dedicated to pushing boundaries and creating memorable experiences through the power of music.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and entrepreneur, from my perspective as Gullie Lamont, is the ability to redefine the path to success for talented musicians. It’s immensely fulfilling to showcase to artists that there’s a new avenue for their music to reach millions and generate substantial income in return—a level of financial stability that many musicians dream of achieving.
Receiving emails confirming file downloads, scheduling contracts, or securing deals for my roster with production houses, ad agencies, music libraries, or networks brings me unparalleled satisfaction. These milestones not only validate the work I’m doing but also affirm my knack for discovering talent. Witnessing the excitement and enthusiasm of my roster as they grasp the unique opportunities we’re offering—such as exclusive contracts without sample usage and entirely original compositions—solidifies our shared vision and sets us apart in the industry. It’s a feeling that’s difficult to put into words but speaks volumes about the impact we’re making and the success we’re achieving together.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One pivotal moment in my journey occurred when I recognized the stark underrepresentation of urban communities and minorities in the sync licensing sector, with less than 10% representation. It became clear to me that I had an opportunity to make a meaningful statement and effect change by creating Grown Kids Music Group.
In response, I established Grown Kids SyncHarmony Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging this gap. The foundation’s mission is to provide comprehensive training and resources, from A to Z, on creating and pitching sync-licensable songs. Our ultimate goal is to secure funding to establish a physical location, ideally in Burbank or North Hollywood, where aspiring artists and creatives can access these invaluable resources.
This pivot was not just about me—it was about advocating for those talented individuals whose music was sitting dormant, waiting to be discovered. Through Grown Kids SyncHarmony Foundation, I am committed to fighting for these artists and ensuring that their voices are heard in the sync licensing industry, ultimately empowering the ‘grown kids at heart’ to achieve their dreams.
