We recently connected with Guimar Urbina and have shared our conversation below.
Guimar , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
One of the biggest trends I’m seeing in the interior design industry is the incorporation of trees and plants indoors, with the olive tree being a standout choice. This trend adds a sense of nature and serenity to interiors, creating a bridge between the indoor and outdoor worlds. Another key trend is the rise of curved furniture, especially sofas, which soften the overall look of a space, creating a welcoming and fluid atmosphere.
Additionally, there’s a growing focus on mixing natural materials like marble, wood, glass, mirrors, and fabrics. This combination allows for a more tactile and visually interesting space, with different textures and finishes coming together to create harmony.
What excites me most about these trends is the creative freedom they offer. As a designer, they allow me to experiment and personalize every project to reflect the individuality of each client.
The opportunity in these trends lies in the ability to create more personalized and meaningful spaces. However, one concern is the risk of overusing certain elements, like plants or specific materials, which could make them feel less special or overdone. Balance is key—each design needs to reflect the unique taste and personality of the client, without simply following trends for the sake of it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
At Guimar Urbina Interiors, we have been transforming spaces for the past 15 years, with my personal experience in the industry spanning over 19 years. Our office is located in the heart of Miami’s Design District, where trends and major design events take place, keeping us constantly inspired and at the forefront of the industry.
We offer boutique services, which means we handle everything for our clients—from the initial design concept to execution, coordination of furniture deliveries, and even down to turnkey details like linens, silverware, and food for the fridge. Our goal is to make sure our clients have a stress-free experience when renovating or building their home or commercial space. We want them to walk into their new space and have everything set, ready for them to live in and enjoy from day one.
Our designs are timeless and reflect personal, unique styles. You can explore our projects on the Guimar Urbina Interiors website, as well as on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Spotify, Houzz, and more. We also host a podcast available on YouTube Podcast and Spotify under the name Guimar Urbina Interiors, where we discuss design trends, tips, and more.
What sets Guimar Urbina Interiors apart is that we offer both architectural and interior design services, ensuring a seamless process from start to finish. One of the things I’m most proud of is that almost all of our clients return to us for future projects. It’s a testament to the fact that they are happy with the service we provide, and nothing makes us more fulfilled than knowing we’ve earned their trust.
Another thing that distinguishes us is our commitment to respecting our clients’ budgets. From the very beginning, we are clear about costs, and we ensure that there are no unexpected expenses along the way. This transparency allows us to build strong, trusting relationships with our clients, which is why they keep coming back.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that my clients have been the key to building and maintaining the reputation of Guimar Urbina Interiors over the years. They are the ones who have experienced our high-quality service and transparent working process, as I mentioned earlier. We ensure that they know exactly where their money is being spent and we stay within their budget, with no surprises along the way.
What has truly helped us grow our reputation is the word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients. When they invite friends and family to their homes and are asked who did the work, they speak highly of our services. This kind of personal recommendation has been invaluable, as it not only reflects our commitment to excellence but also positions us as a trusted reference in the market for delivering quality and professionalism.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an interior designer for me is the satisfaction of designing and creating a bespoke home tailored to each client’s needs and lifestyle. Knowing that our clients walk into their homes every day and feel happy and content with a space that not only reflects their personal style but also meets their daily needs is truly priceless.
There is an immense sense of fulfillment in being entrusted with such an intimate part of their lives—their home. We get to transform their spaces, from their private rooms to every corner of their house, into something that enhances their daily experiences. Being a part of their lives and stories through the designs we create at Guimar Urbina Interiors is incredibly gratifying. It’s about more than just creating beautiful spaces; it’s about contributing to their happiness and well-being.
