We were lucky to catch up with Guillermo Ramirez-Garduno recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Guillermo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
We are an inner city Boxing Gym in Lexington, Kentucky we serve all walks of life and different children and adults ranging from beginners to professional athletes. We specialize in helping children to channel their energy into punching a boxing bag. One time I asked a former 2x world champion Darrin Van Horn to punch me in my chest just for fun I almost ended up in the ER.

My name is Guillermo Ramirez-Garduno I am the owner and operator of House of Best Kept Secrets Boxing Gym in Lexington Kentucky. We specialize in helping children with Juvenile delinquency, ADHD, PTSD and other behavioral issues through teaching them Olympic style Boxing and exercise.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It is an immense privilege and journey watching my students put in the hard work and dedication at the gym. I’ve had the privilege to help kids get in shape and develop a skill and discipline and apply that in a trade or career such as the military, law enforcement, paramedic and firefighting. We instill core values such as respect, hard work, integrity and above all discipline!
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
When my daughter was 8 years old she was being bullied at school and she was depressed when I told her she needed to defend herself. At that point I signed her up to learn martial arts she did not like Muay Thai so we transitioned to Boxing. At that point little did I know at the time I would meet a life long friends and business partners Gerald “Best Kept Secret,” Reed and Robbelle “The Realist,” Roger’s who helped my daughter not only learn the basic fundamentals of boxing but instill discipline, hard work and dedication. She is now a 3X national champion in multiple categories and she is currently ranked #1 in the USA!
