We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Griffin Ledger a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Griffin , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning the craft has been a journey itself; I started off in an audio engineering class but had to drop out due to Covid. Ever since I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube tutorials and most importantly just putting personal practice and work in.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The music that got me into making music was EDM, in high school I knew music was something I really wanted to do. Saved up my money to get the I have to make music with and invested in the craft.
I’m a user of FL Studio, it’s a slick software to use for music making and it’s even easy for beginners to use. I really like using Portal by Output, that’s how I achieve the melody’s I made. I actually worked with a gentlemen named Lederrick a few times, he’s a producer that made some music for Lil Peep.
The main thing I’m proud of is I feel like I’m not a follower, don’t get me wrong I do get inspiration but I really do like to make my own sounding stuff. People say my stuff sounds different than a regular trap or a hip hop beat.
I hope to go back to audio engineering school. I would love to get into making music for television and even movies.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
At first normally I was going to school to be a computer support specialist. Things happened in my life and realized I will put more effort into my life and try to give myself what I truly deserve. I can’t work a 9-5 for the rest of my life or some low end job or some low end life when I could have went higher and gone for my goals and dreams. Realizing yo shoot for the stars.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My whole entire life music is the thing that’s got me through the most, like most people. But for my music really has a huge meaning in my life, it’s everywhere, movies, tv, video games, music can really set the move and make your mind imagine things, make you motivated, inspire you. I really just want to show people that they should ever give up, no matter what it may in life. People should really do the best they can in life and be the best they can be. No one knows what will happen tomorrow.
