We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Grier Spry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Grier below.
Alright, Grier thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to empower purpose-driven organizations by crafting meaningful brands and immersive experiences that truly connect with their audiences, leaving a lasting positive impact. This journey is fueled by my deep belief in the power of meaningful connections and living a fulfilling life. I don’t just work in industries like real estate, hospitality, tourism, and nonprofits—I invest my heart into them. I believe in their missions and actively participate in them in my own life.
This passion ignited my love for uncovering impact through branding and led to the creation of Destination Freedom, a company founded on the belief that travel and giving back can enrich our hearts and minds, guiding us toward a more purposeful life. At DF, we empower individuals to explore the world while making a positive impact because I truly believe everyone deserves the chance to experience connection, purpose, and freedom.
This philosophy shapes my approach to branding for purpose-driven organizations. I’m not just focused on creating eye-catching visuals; I’m on a mission to uncover the deeper stories that allow brands to resonate with their audiences. Through thoughtful design and storytelling, I aim to transform audiences into loyal advocates, aligning brand purpose with their desires. Whether through large-format prints, engaging events, or immersive augmented reality experiences, my focus is always on building lasting connections that make a difference.

Grier, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Grier, also known as MissG, and I’m a multidisciplinary designer and branding specialist with a deep love for exploration and continuous learning. For the past eight years, I’ve been crafting meaningful brands and immersive experiences for purpose-driven organizations in real estate, hospitality, tourism, and nonprofits. My journey began in college, where I studied advertising and minored in graphic design. Since then, my passion has been fueled by a desire to create work that not only looks great visually but also builds authentic connections that help businesses resonate with their audiences. At the core of every brand is a powerful story, and my role is to uncover and bring that story to life through engaging experiences—whether it’s through brand identity, large-format print designs, event branding, or augmented reality (AR).
What truly sets me apart is my ability to blend creativity with purpose. I don’t design just for aesthetics; I take the time to understand what makes a brand unique and how it can deeply connect with its audience. I thrive on partnering with purpose-driven organizations, amplifying their mission, and transforming their audience into loyal advocates.
The most fulfilling part of my work is helping clients realize the full potential of their brand and watching them thrive in their purpose. I want potential clients and followers to know that I am deeply invested in their mission and success of their every company. Though I work independently as a branding specialist, my approach is highly collaborative with those that I work with. Whether developing a visual identity or launching an immersive marketing campaign, my goal is always to create brands that not only stand out but forge lasting impressions.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There have been several pivotal moments in my career when I’ve had to restructure my business model to adapt to both personal interests and external changes. Early on, I balanced a demanding 9-to-5 job while freelancing on the side, trying to figure out which parts of the industry truly ignited my passion. It wasn’t easy, but the long nights and constant hustle helped me discover my love for brand identity, large-format design, and experiential marketing. As my passion for these areas grew, I made the bold decision to explore different avenues of work, such as freelancing full-time or taking on contract work, believing that I could build something special.
Freelancing full-time as a natural introvert showed me that the road wasn’t always smooth. There was a time when I found myself in a difficult situation—freelance work was scarce, and clients weren’t as steady as I had hoped. It was a moment of real vulnerability. Yet, instead of giving up, I dug deep and chose to pivot. I started partnering with companies, taking on contract and remote part-time work to maintain flexibility and keep my business moving forward. Those partnerships not only sustained me but also opened up new opportunities for growth.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn in business was the idea that success meant doing everything myself., even as a freelancer. Early in my career, I believed that to prove my worth and succeed as a freelancer, I had to be in control of every aspect of my business—from design to client management to marketing. I thought that if I didn’t personally handle every detail, I wasn’t truly building something of my own. This mindset led me to work long hours, constantly juggling multiple tasks and projects, often to the point of burnout.
One turning point came when I was managing several large projects at once. I was overwhelmed, constantly chasing deadlines, and felt like I was barely keeping my head above water. Despite how hard I was working, I realized that the quality of my work was suffering because I was stretched too thin. It hit me that I wasn’t doing my clients or myself any favors by trying to handle it all alone. I had to unlearn the idea that asking for help or delegating meant weakness or failure.
So, I started outsourcing certain tasks and collaborating with other creatives and specialists. Not only did this take a huge weight off my shoulders, but it also allowed me to focus on the parts of the business I truly loved and excelled at—designing and building meaningful brands. This shift taught me that success doesn’t come from doing everything yourself; it comes from surrounding yourself with the right people and trusting others to help you grow. It was a humbling, yet powerful lesson that changed the way I approach business.
