We recently connected with Greta Coalier and have shared our conversation below.
Greta, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I was fortunate in that I was encouraged to be creative and make art from a very young age. Skills add up over time with repetition and my degree in art gave me a great foundation for methods and an understanding of art history. I won’t ever be finished learning how to make art! It’s a never ending process of trial and error to find what methods work best for the what I am trying to create at any given point. To be constantly curious of the world around me and the story I have to tell keeps my work evolving and I’m always looking to stretch and grow as an artist.

Greta, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’d say my life as an artist began when I was very small. Creating was a part of life that felt and feels vital and I’ve continued to stay true to that need although it’s looked different depending on life stages. I’ve been focusing on painting for the last 10 years and my work is really a love affair with color always.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe the arts are the narrative of humanity. By being a part of that story we share in what it is to be human. Maybe that means going to a concert or having art in your home or supporting funding for the arts. The more art we have in the world the more we can connect to each other and share in community.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I’d like to think that my work is an illustration of emotion in color. To be able to provide moments of joy and connection with fellow human beings is what makes me happiest.
