We were lucky to catch up with Grégory Viguié recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Grégory, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
I had the priviledge to help a lady who did not know her grandparents and did not know her family name or their history. She did not even know if her last name was the right one. I was so pleased to find out her family history and her name of origin which gave her closure and also important information she longed for. She cried and thanked me. I was so honored to be a part of her journey and history.
Grégory, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Professional historian and geneologian, I work for individuals just as much as I do for cities and entire companies. I have moreover helped Americans find their French descendants and I hope to help more Americans who are intrigued by their genealogy. I have professionally been doing this work for a dozen years. I have been passionate about history and genealogy since I was 10 as I had a grandfather who fought in the First World War. I was intrigued at a young age and decided to make it my career. I have a lot of pride in my work as I have helped people find long gone family history. For instance, people who knew little or nothing of their family’s history and past were able to discover and reconcile their family’s history thanks to my research. It is very rewarding to find the family’s ancestors and their history and help them along this historian journey bridging their past to their present and future. I have a variety of services I provide. I trace family trees, help find ancestors, help mayors and entire cities to know more about and understand monuments or critical moments in history. And I have written books about my work–twelve to this day. Additionally, I present internationally to a variety of institutions and universities teaching students about the history I have been so immensely passionate about for decades. I recently was nominated and received the prestigious reward of “Ordre du Merite”which is a great honor to have received. I am humbled that my work was acclaimed the way it was and am thrilled to continue to help others in history and geneology.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
A television station worked on a documentary on my passion for history and geneology and I have, since then, collaborated with them on a variety of shows. Outside of my work for cities and mayors, the TV helped viewers get to know me.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
While each team and job is unique, if there is not a global passion and shared values, it will not have the same impact and signification.
