We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gregory Duval a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gregory, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
It all started in the early 90’s in Boston working for Maurice Starr founder and producer, writer for New Edition and New Kids on the Block. I was an intern working in three different studios before moving back to NYC and working at Unique Studios and other recording studios in New York. It was always my goal to own and operate my own music production company and recording studio. Having the opportunity to learn different techniques and working with the pros gave me a lot of confidence applying that today helps me grow as a business owner, Throughout the years I had the opportunity to work with grammy winning producers, artists and engineers. I love my job and helping artists, producers, Dj’s, and recording engineers learn the basics in music production and studio recording.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I love my job I’ve got to work with the industry’s hottest artist, engineers and producers such as Big Chuck, Maurice Starr, Dr. Dre, Jay Z, Wu Tang, Onyx, Ron Feemster, Rory Shamir, Angela Piva, Rich Keller, Rich July, Dan Zellman, Young Guru, Jus Blaze and that’s just to name a few. And it’s been the greatest experience. I just looking forward to enhancing my skills as an engineer and a professional. Specialties: I also worked on all kinds of consoles such as SSL G&J series, Neve, Amek, Allen Heath, and also digital console such as Mackie D8B, Digi 02, Pro Tools Pro Control 24. I’ve worked with Studer and MCI 24 track tape machines. I also worked and mixed on SSL 64 channel boards with full automation and total recall. I also use all kinds of digital sequence programs such as Pro Tools, Cake Walk, Digital Performer, Cube Base digital samplers, digital and analog consoles, keyboards and all kinds of outboard gear. I also know how to run PCs and Mac’s. I’ve worked with all types different of effect processors, eq’s, and compressors and gates. I’m also know how to run all types of different editing programs.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There’s so many trials and errors that I’ve been through and still dealing with in owning a recording studio in New York City with all the competition and rival producers all trying to do the same can be frustrating, but the fun part is discovering new and different tactics to be innovated. Ideas can come from anywhere at any giving time. It’s all about not giving up and trying out all your ideas and methods in different ways and collaborating with different people.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Staying informed with our clients and fans is very important, its vital to our business. Every client wants to feel that they’re getting not just their money’s worth but a solid relationship and trust that the product is in good hands.
