We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gregory Boan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gregory, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am the happiest I have ever been as a business owner and never think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. I wake up each morning knowing that my success is in my own hands, that I am only limited by my imagination, and that I am lucky to have the ability to dictate what my life will look like.
Gregory, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have extensive experience in business and immigration law, representing clients and businesses alike both inside the U.S. or abroad in filing visas based on talent, investment, or employment history among other things.
I was born and raised in Miami and speak Spanish, English, and Portuguese fluently. I possess three bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree from The Florida State University as well as a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad Law Center.
I graduated Dean’s List as a Broward County Hispanic Bar Association Scholar, Nova Law Public Service Fellow, Glanzlaw Professionalism Endowment Recipient, and Nova Law Pro Bono Honoree: Gold Level Recipient and was a 2018-2020 Fellow of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section.
Experienced as both a litigator and a transactional attorney, I am constantly abreast of changing laws within the business and immigration communities and how governmental affairs can affect outcomes in the courtroom or in an immigration process.
Having previously served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Judge Robert W. Lee of Florida’s 17th Judicial Circuit I have received honorable mention for my writing and research on points of civil and criminal law, professional ethics, LGBT issues, and the Florida Small Claims Rules Annotated.
Having served as a legal clerk to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Attorney’s Office and Florida Department of Transportation, I am well versed in governmental procedures and administrative laws, having advised on policies including procurement, tax, public arts, voting, real estate development, and land use in the State of Florida.
Having worked in the Republic of Panama with the United Nations on issues of economy, health, and land rights, I have contributed to a body of international law that has had a positive and direct impact on the lives of others outside the United States.
I am admitted to practice in all Florida courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
As immigration law is federal law, I can represent clients in all 50 states, including all U.S. territories, embassies, and consulates abroad.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Immigrating to the U.S. can be a maze of questions and uncertainties, and the government won’t always have the resources or the time to explain things to you so that you can make an informed decision.
As an attorney, I pride myself on providing transparent, realistic, and detailed information to my clients and I believe that is what has helped me build my reputation.
I don’t just tell clients what they want to hear or give short answers. I provide detailed context so that my client knows why things are what they are, how and why we should address something in a given way, and what can happen from a given moment forward.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Results and time are the most effective strategy for growing clients. A happy client is a client that refers others so if you just focus on delivering good work product, referrals will come.
