We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Greg Scheinman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Greg below.
Greg, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I had the idea for Midlife Male back in ‘2017 and didn’t really go “all in” on it until 2020 because I was a partner in a large insurance firm and really couldn’t be as “out there” as I wanted to be with what I was personally experiencing. I found myself in this kind of strange place in Midlife. Here I was, a guy @35-55 balancing work, life, family, health/fitness, finance/money, some style/fashion – trying to balance it all and live his best life possible without regret I felt all these things I wanted to be about and live about.. He’s about having both substance and style. About punching the bully in the mouth. About experiences over things. He’s about quality over quantity. He’s about learning and living. About trying, failing and ultimately succeeding. He’s about questioning things. He’s not trying to fit in or conform. He’s into iconic, classic, timeless style. He’s about being a great father. About understanding that there are no things more valuable than time, health and family. He’s about knowing when enough is enough. He is about perseverance, discipline and having fun. Now, I get to talk to other midlife males on my podcast and have done over 200 episodes, and speak about it on stages. I write about my 6F’s in my bestselling book and on family, fitness, finance, food, fashion, and fun in my newsletter; not to provide advice or come at this like in any kind of expert but rather that we’re all in this together, just trying to do our best, be our best and be happy, secure and comfortable in our own skin – Midlife Male is a lifestyle for like minded guys just trying to figure it all out. I’m just really hoping to inspire, aspire and perspire together.

Greg, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Sure. I think we’re all more than one thing. I know I am…I’m an entrepreneur, performance coach, keynote speaker, thought leader and now a bestselling author, which is surreal…I’ve interviewed more than two hundred of the world’s top performers— from top CEOs and entrepreneurs to Grammy-winners and Olympic gold medalists.
My podcast, The Midlife Male, is now one of the top-rated podcasts in the world and my weekly newsletter reaches thousands each week.
I have a High Performance Lifestyle Coaching Program and get to deliver empowering keynote speeches, sharing what I’ve learned over 50 years and what i’ve learned from the world’s top performers so that I can help others transform from Mediocre to Maximized at any age & stage of life and get back what matters most.
I have been at the top of my game and on the brink of stalling out many times throughout my life— sometimes both at the same time.
From seeing my father pass away at age 47 with unfulfilled dreams to watching my brother from behind bars, to surviving Harvey Weinstein and going on to produce two successful movies. I went from selling DVDs out of the trunk of my car to selling my business to former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, only to end up at rock bottom again personally & professionally.
Having worked through alcoholism, depression, anxiety, and self-destructive behavior to regaining my health and becoming a top athlete competing in some of the world’s most challenging events along with becoming a partner in a large risk management firm and experiencing my second seven figure exit.
Along the way I’ve gone from fat to fit, broke to wealthy, unhappy to fulfilled.
From living behind the facade of what others think success looks like to truly owning my own identity and authenticity.
Now, I get to live my message every day as the Founder & Face of Midlife Male, the premier digital media platform for Middle Aged Men and the brands that want to reach them.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In life, everything happens for a reason. There are rewards and consequences for every action we take – sometimes minute, sometimes significant. Let’s face it – we aren’t getting younger. We’re at a time in our life where we can combine our experience and wisdom to make better choices, identify our passions, and prepare to make the second half of our life full of purpose.
Through The Midlife Male I am taking all I’ve learned – and continue to learn – to serve up candid conversations to inspire men in building a sustainable, healthy, and passion-filled life with peace, joy, serenity, financial security, and fun.
Some consider my life’s path unconventional. But I think everyone’s path is unconventional in their own way.
When I was in my 20’s I was Harvey Weinstein’s Executive Assistant. I told him to f-off 20 years before the #MeToo movement and still went on to produce two successful films.
In my 30’s I built an award-winning sports DVD business for children that held licenses with the NBA, NCAA, MLB and NASCAR and produced over 50 titles. It was called Team Baby Entertainment. Former Disney Chairman Michael Eisner acquired that business.
I’m fortunate to have been featured in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Adweek, the New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, ESPN, The Big Idea with Donnie Deutsch, and Variety. I was the former host of PBS’s Profiles of Innovation, a broadcast program that dug deep with accomplished entrepreneurs.
I’ve had my fair share of challenges too. I lost my father in my teens, experienced the imprisonment of my brother, I’ve struggled with weight, alcohol, hair loss, body image (warning: today I rarely wear a shirt when I work out), anxiety, and self-confidence.
The fact is that we ALL have experiences and choices that shape our lives. The wisdom gained gives us the option of being a victim or using our experiences to learn, share, and become better people.
I’m now 50 and have regained my health to become a top executive athlete. I’ve transitioned from risk- taker to risk manager and became a multimillion- dollar producer and partner with Insgroup, one of the largest insurance firms in the United States which was acquired by Baldwin Risk Partners (NASDAQ: BRP) in December 2020.
I’ve worked diligently to combine my personal passions with professional expertise and specialize in risk management for hospitality and food brands, CPG, health and fitness companies, entrepreneurs, and luxury lifestyles.
I’m more than one thing. In fact, we all are. It’s just whether we’re open to letting people in on it.
I’m an entrepreneur, author, speaker, coach, podcaster, fitness enthusiast, husband and dad. I’m curious and love to learn and try new things. Over the past few years I felt a calling to use my experiences to inform, inspire and entertain others that might be experiencing some of the same shit I’ve experienced, and how those experiences are helping me to maximize middle age today.
My methodology regarding work and life is simple: Surround yourself with people you love and trust and ideas you care about. Bring passion, authenticity, humility, and transparency to everything you do.
Can you talk to us about your experience with selling businesses?
