We were lucky to catch up with Greg Mulamba recently and have shared our conversation below.
Greg, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
FalseNin9 Soccer Development aims to be remembered as a company dedicated to the development and progress of athletes above all else. When you choose us, it’s because you seek improvement and excellence. Our mission is to help you exceed your perceived limits, both physically and mentally. We strive to support athletes not only on the field but also off it, upholding standards of integrity and strong work ethic. We approach our work with passion, energy, and enthusiasm, and we hope our players remember us for both our actions and our character.
Greg, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
FalseNin9 Soccer Development was established to thoroughly prepare athletes for the challenges and successes they will encounter in their playing career. At FalseNin9 Soccer Development, we believe soccer consist of two parts: external and internal factors. External factors are beyond a player’s control, while internal factors are the individual choices they can control. We teach players to account for the external factors but focus mainly on internal factors that they can actually control. Mastery of these elements enables players to make confident, creative, and high-level decisions in their play, applicable at any level of soccer. Our training sessions integrate the awareness and mastery of these factors through three pillars: Perception, Action, and Will. Action is what we see on the field – the plays, skills, and techniques. However, a player’s action depends on Perception and Will. Perception helps them determine the best next decision, whether it’s the optimal line of attack or the most effective defensive position. Will is their attitude, commitment, and follow-through on their decisions and the game itself. The culmination of these three pillars – Perception, Action, and Will – is the focus of FalseNin9 Soccer sessions, ensuring all players develop holistically.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Our company was founded during the Covid pandemic when people were gradually becoming comfortable with interactions again. We began with just five players whose parents trusted us enough to work with their kids during that challenging time. Initially, it was tough because many were still wary of group gatherings. I recall one incident when a lady even called the cops on us while we were training. Despite these challenges, we persevered because we were doing something we loved and believed in helping players grow. Our dedication paid off, and those five players soon became ten, then twenty, and now we’ve had hundreds of players go through our program.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Not all business is good business; it has to align with who we are and what we offer. It’s not just about the players but also their parents. We seek players with a certain mentality and work ethic, and we also consider the parents’ attitudes and interactions. We observe how parents support their children during training, how they interact with coaches, and what their expectations are. We’ve learned that, regardless of payment, if it’s not a good fit, it’s not worth any amount of money.
