We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Greg Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Greg below.
Greg , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Orginally my magazine brand started off as an online blog filled with daily celebrity gossip post and click bait headlines.
In 2020 I decided to take “Slums Magazine” to the next level by creating real digital and hard copy publications for my brand.
The publication would advertise and promote underground music artist and highlight artist in mainstream media as well.
With a primary focus for hip-hop and pop culture, blending both communities one glossy page at a time.
I knew I had to create a LLC for my brand and trademark the name and get a business EIN for the company. I also did a lot of research about magazine development, distribution company’s and marketing and strategy planning.
I worked closely with a graphic designer to help me create a logo for my business and a website that was visibly appealing and matched my marketing strategies.
From there, I just made it happen.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I went to school at Bethune Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.
This is where I studied mass communication with an emphasis in print editorial.
I also took courses in marketing, advertising and public relations as well.
I always loved to write.
Working in print editorial gave me the opportunity to do that and also incorporate other things that I enjoy like music, pop culture, fashion and cultural affairs.
As of today I generate several
Publications a year through (2) different distributions company’s. Each publication highlights underground and mainstream influence in music, fashion, sports and much more.
My brand was manufactured to promote and advertise entrepreneurs, influencers, musicians, artists, commentators and entertainers all around the world.
I also provide photography, creative directing, graphic designing and social media managing services to my clients as well.
The goal is to help my clients expand their business endeavors through social brand awareness, collaborative partnerships and a high visibility publications that showcases a striking presentation of their brand.
I am most proud of how far I’ve come.
This all started off as just an idea and now it’s my reality.
The most important thing to know about my brand is the motto.
“It’s not about where you’re from, it’s about where you’re going!”

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience by doing collaborative partnerships!
Social media is so powerful and the goal is to get your brand in front of as many different faces as possible. You can do this by collaborating.
When it’s time to post the cover of my magazine, I collaborate with the client via social media so that their followers can also see the cover down their timeline as well as my follower’s. Now the brand is being seen by a bigger audience. I also collaborate on behind the scenes footage, live interviews or even a tik tok.
Another way to build your audience on social media is by using trendy hashtags or sounds! This is guaranteed way to get pushed into the algorithm.
Also brand identity is so important when it comes to social media. Make sure when people visit your business page that it is clean, clear and focused on the product that you’re selling.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, being consistent was the best thing that helped me build my marketing.
Think about how many times you see a GEICO commercial.
They randomly pop up on your TV, internet browsers or during a YouTube AD.
The idea is to keep putting the product in the customers face. I’m guilty of watching a commercial and saying it verbatim as if I wrote the commercial.
It’s because I’ve seen it and heard it so many times!
That’s how you build your marketing, through consistency!
Constantly putting it in the consumer’s face.
