Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Greg Greber. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Greg, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I started making beats when I was 19. My friend introduced me to Fruity Loops for the first time. That was 22 years ago. I have practiced, experimented, studied, and created music since then. I went to college and got my Bachelor’s degree in music production and engineering at Full Sail University.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My real name is Greg Greber but I go by 2 Geez. I have been creating music for over 22 years now. It is my passion and my motivation. I have worked with musicians from all over the world including Zambia, London, Germany, and Czech Republic to name a few. I was a drug addict for the majority of my teen years and my twenties. It was hard to pursue a career as a producer and artist while addicted to drugs. So I decided I wanted more from life. I got into recovery at the age of 28, and have been pursuing music full time since I got clean. I work with a lot of great artist from the states as well. Currently I am working exclusively with an artist named Krazey Jakey. We have released 15 songs as singles to all streaming platforms. We also released a 13 song album that is only for sale in physical copies. We are working on the second album now. I do not support the mainstream agenda nor do we rap about mainstream topics. Our music is about recovery, faith, addiction, and mental health. It is relatable music about unpopular topics. We go to rehabs to perform our music and also share our testimonies. I also rap, but it’s more for therapy. So I don’t release as much music as I produce for others. I love working with other creators and music editors. I’m currently working to get my music licensed for films, television, games and other media with sync licensing.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I struggled with drug addiction starting from my teen years. I loved music and knew I wanted to be in the industry full time. But it was impossible to achieve the goals I had for music while being addicted to drugs. At age 28 I knew I wanted to change. I had many near death experiences during my addiction. I believe God protected me. So I had to enter a program that would completely change my life. I stayed for 2.5 years! And it was the hardest thing I would ever do. Now I’m clear headed and able to not only pursue my dream, but achieve the goals I have set for myself and my brand.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I absolutely love to create. Without it I feel empty. The reward comes during the process of creating and also the finished product. There are many rewards to creating. I get to work with some of the most interesting people and make music with them!
