We were lucky to catch up with Greg Artavia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Greg, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I have found that curating for the Writers Round communities have been the most rewarding project i have worked on. The ability to be able to provide a space for emerging artists has been really special

Greg, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was a musician who was just going out to open mics to play a song here or there. I was asked by a friend to host an open mic that wasn’t gaining any traction. I went to a writer round event and fell in love with the format.
It’s basically 3 artists on stage at the same time. They each play three songs, 1 song at a time, in rotation until each artist has sang their 3 songs. We have 2 featured rounds that are curated. It really makes it feel like a show aspect. We also have 2 open mic rounds. So if you’re an artist who wants to be a part of a community. It’s an opportunity to play in front of established musicians that can give you advice in a safe space environment. The only difference between the curated and open mic rounds is that open mic only plays 2 songs.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best way to support the artist to simply come out to the local shows and support the artist. That doesn’t have mean buy their merchandise, but it’s certainly helpful but just coming out and listening. Everybody need an audience so the artist can grow.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to introduce these artists to each other. To be able to help them grow and develop as artists
