We were lucky to catch up with Grayson Patton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Grayson, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
My best advice to clients who are wanting to start therapy is to be vulnerable, trust the process, and make sure you have a therapist that feels like a good fit. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle when it comes to therapy. Clients should feel comfortable sharing in the therapy space, should feel supported, and should generally feel like the therapists personality “vibes well” with yours, as the client. Once you find a good fit, I encourage clients to use this space to dig deeper, work towards goals, and explore your values.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! I’m Grayson Patton (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) practicing in Charlotte, North Carolina. I provide individual mental health therapy to adolescent girls and adult women in North and South Carolina. If you are looking for a space where you can grow, heal, reflect, and become the best version of yourself, welcome. You have come to the right place, and I’m excited to meet you!
I strongly believe that empathy, trust, and respect are the foundation of a therapeutic relationship. As a therapist, I hope to provide a space for you to share openly, discover new perspectives, and feel heard. You are not defined by what you are struggling with, and there is always hope for change.
I use a person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach, in which therapy is a collaborative process. My goal is to help you align with your values and become the best version of yourself. Working together, we will create an individualized treatment plan, which will reflect your unique needs. Throughout the therapy process, I will incorporate different interventions from evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and others. I will empower you to find peace and appreciation for your mind and body connection.
I work with adult women, ages 18 and up, struggling with life transitions, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, and more. I have a focus in eating disorders, body image concerns, and low self esteem. If you are interested in incorporating your faith into your healing journey, I will certainly support you in exploring this as well.
I have experience providing therapy in the partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), outpatient (OP), and primary care settings.
As an eating disorder provider, I practice from a HAES (Health At Every Size) and weight neutral lens. I believe that multidisciplinary collaboration is extremely important so I work closely with your registered dietitian, physician, and any other members of your healthcare team.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Networking!!!! This is crucial. I never pass up the opportunity to connect with others in my field and to create relationships. I work alongside other healthcare professionals too and this is particularly helpful in gaining referrals from these trusted providers.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Helping clients find the right fit with a therapist. I go above and beyond to help new clients get connected with therapists, even if they don’t end up scheduling with me. I think people find this very helpful and appreciate the work I do behind the scenes. I have received a lot of new clients from personal referrals from people I’ve come in contact with and helped along the way.
