We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Grant Wicker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Grant, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?

More real life applications. The school system could really use revamping and teach applicable skills to kids along side the current system.

Grant, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I started in construction at a young age. My first job was polishing granite countertops in the back of a warehouse. I’ve held many roles in construction from concrete labor to project manager for a developer building high rises downtown. And of course now I own my own construction company. It’s truly my passion. I love every project that I do. I like bringing people’s vision to life. I enjoy seeing a customer at project completion happy and impressed.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?

I saved enough for a year to pay myself(I thought). I slowly bought tools/equipment. I knew this is my passion and what I loved to do so I took a bet on myself and just started. There’s no such thing as a “good time to start”

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Being transparent and authentic. Not a salesman.
