We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Grant Guillot a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Grant, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
When I decided to take the leap and move out to California after I graduated high school, many things were up in the air. No job, no place to live, no clue how I was going to find my way into doing what I love for a living. As my friends moved out and posted pictures of their dorm and class schedule, I scrolled through my contact list to see if I knew anyone at all in the LA area.
Luckily, I found my good friend and bandmate Travis Mackay. He had worked with my uncle as an ADR mixer years prior. I hadn’t spoken to Travis since I was five years old, so it must have come as a bit of a surprise when he received my call.
Sometimes things are just meant to be. Travis needed someone to fill his back unit, and gave me my first place to live in LA. Here he heard me producing my music, and suggested we play the songs live with a band! Since then, we have played dozens of shows together and continue to live the dream playing music all over town

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been a creative my entire life. This has taken many forms from music to acting to content creation, and much more. When I moved to LA, I found a way to monetize my skillset and build my own business. I love to feel in control and live life on my own terms, so I prefer to freelance my time.
I currently offer my video/photo and editing services most prominently. I primarily shoot content for artists to post and promote their creative projects! This means filming both their live performances and scheduling shoots singularly focused on social media content.
I take pride in my attention to detail, unique style, and quick turnaround time. Above all else I think what sets me apart is who I am as a person. I feel I am able to put artists’ nerves at ease and tap into the creative energy they want to showcase.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
A creative’s journey is not for everyone. Certainly not for those who thrive on consistency. I have learned to embrace the chaos and have fun with the fact that each day is different. It’s never perfect, but it’s exciting that way. I want to experience the most in my lifetime, and having a creative career, especially in LA, provides me the opportunity to change it up when things start getting stale.
So for the time being, I may be broke. But i’m having fun. You only live once, right?

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Above all else, I am an artist because I can make an impact on other’s lives. I want my footprint on this earth to show that I changed people’s lives for the better. I want to be transparent with my experience, displaying the good and the bad.
