We recently connected with Grant Goldsworthy and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Grant thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I’ve made art since I was little boy, and always had the confidence in my own taste to make art that I liked. I came into art as a musician – I love to sing. I started playing in garage bands at the age of 13, and have been making music since. I picked up a camera along the way to take pictures of my band’s album covers, friend’s album covers, live shows, etc. My work shooting portraits of musicians quickly escalated to shooting models, and other creatives. It took me some time to figure out how to commoditize my skillsets as an artist, and to think about my art as a possible career. I absolutely wish I could’ve put those pieces together sooner, but I am grateful always for my ability to create art that I like.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I believe beauty is everywhere. I believe art is beauty. I’ve learned there are things that will happen to you in life that are out of your control. Finding beauty everywhere, therefore, is a survival tactic. It’s how I survive. I do not accept living without beauty. I do not accepting living without art. My work aims to reveal the magic that exists in everything. There’s a lot to discover.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is being able to live your life through a framework of curiosity, and to be able to recognize beauty in a way others cant.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I believe the objective of being an artist is to be open to constantly evolve. I believe there’s no such thing as mastering any art form. Your job is to be a student of the craft, and learn everything you can to continue to push yourself further into the medium.
