We recently connected with Gram Siegert and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gram, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The Light Work Improvements Mission Story
For over a decade, I dedicated myself to mastering the craft of painting, working my way up through the ranks at Sherwin-Williams. I didn’t just learn how to paint—I learned the science behind coatings, the chemistry of products, and the techniques that separate a good job from a flawless one. Through years of hands-on experience and working with contractors, homeowners, and business owners, I developed a deep understanding of what makes a professional paint job stand the test of time.
But beyond the craft, something deeper was stirring in me. God was calling me to take a leap of faith—to step away from the comfort of a secure career and build something greater. Not just a painting company, but a mission-driven business that would bring excellence in craftsmanship and excellence in faith together. Light Work Improvements was born out of that calling.
At Light Work Improvements, we don’t just paint homes—we cover them in expert coatings backed by years of product knowledge and technical skill. But more importantly, we bring a Christian touch to every project. We pray over the homes we work on, asking for blessings over the families that live there. We approach each job with integrity, treating every customer with grace, patience, and respect.
Our mission is simple: to provide high-end professional painting services to our community while prayerfully delivering peace and excellence throughout the process. Whether it’s transforming a single room or an entire home, we believe our work should reflect the same standard of excellence God calls us to in all things. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about paint—it’s about leaving behind something lasting, both in quality and in spirit.

Gram, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My Journey to Light Work Improvements
Painting has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I spent hours painting my childhood home with my mom, learning the patience and attention to detail that the craft demands. I worked alongside my dad, too, helping him on jobs, including one exterior project where I stood on a ladder with a paintbrush in hand and trying a mango for the first time on our lunch break. Those moments weren’t just about painting—they were about learning work ethic, perseverance, and the satisfaction of seeing a project come to life.
As I got older, I pursued painting professionally, spending ten years climbing the ranks at Sherwin-Williams. I immersed myself in the industry, learning everything I could about coatings, products, and techniques. I took pride in my work, but at that time, my life was missing something bigger. I was living for myself, separate from God, chasing things that never truly satisfied.
It wasn’t until my late 20s that everything changed. God met me where I was, broke through the walls I had built, and called me to be the man He had always destined me to be. From that moment forward, my life wasn’t just about work—it was about purpose. And part of that purpose was using the skills He had gifted me to serve others.
That’s why I started Light Work Improvements. It’s more than just a painting company; it’s a way to honor God through excellence, integrity, and service. Every brushstroke is done with care, every project is backed by years of expertise, and every home we work on is covered in prayer. Now, my mission is simple: to love God and love others through the work He has equipped me to do. And whether it’s transforming a house with a fresh coat of paint or simply bringing peace and grace into a home, I know I’m exactly where He wants me to be.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot I had to make was recently at the end of 2023. I was preparing to ask for my (at the time) girlfriend’s hand in marriage and I felt this call to leave my career to start a painting business. It was scary at the time because of the unknown that was involved with taking a big leap of faith in my relationship and career path. I experienced a lot of doubt throughout the process but I persevered through to find the biggest blessings of my life that all happened in the spring and summer of 2024. I use this as a testimony now to others that may serve as an encouragement to anyone to follow their calling in life and take risks. What God has prepared for you will always be better than anything you could do on your own.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
This is my favorite questions because it’s my focus, not just in business but in life. Scripture shows many stories of great multitudes following Jesus but the real harvest comes after individual seeds are planted. Treating others with respect but further, engaging with them and getting to know them is critical to making friends and lifelong clients. I enjoy getting to know people and creating laughing memories with them. If someone is more of a serious person then I love learning about what is important to them and showing them that I’m a student of whatever I can learn from them. Everyone has something to offer and within every person (sometimes and often hidden deep within) is a soil ready for a seed that will lead to a harvest.
Also, treating social media the same way when you attempt a larger outreach for your business or passion. If you make videos and try to put on a show, it’s cringe and others will pick up on the lack of authenticity. Discipline and consistency will always win the race. It might be difficult at first to be natural if you’re not used to making content for social media but you have to do it very consistently. You will ease up, become more natural and eventually get to a point where you can be creative and flow through your vision of content. The person on the other side of the screen will pick up on this and it builds a following and trust behind you and what you do. It always starts with being dedicated to your craft and then applying discipline and consistency.
