Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gracielle Willberg. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gracielle , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
I operate an immigration law firm in Miami, Florida. My speciality focuses on deportation defense, asylum, residency (green cards), citizenship, release from custody, and some criminal issues. Miami is a melting pot of culture, and our community of immigrants is woven into the Miami lifestyle everywhere. Notwithstanding, the United States is in wrapped up in a political divide that at times, labels immigrants in our community as outsiders. They are not. My law firm focuses on not only finding legal status for recent arrivals, but guiding them through the process of living in the United States.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an immigrant. I came to the United States as a baby, and I feel just as American as anyone born here. Nevertheless, my family endured the immigration process in the 90’s that was often confusing and daunting. Going through the process myself, I learned that this area of law is both emotional and substantive. I attended the University of Miami School of Law, graduating in 2015. After years of working at a law firm, learning the trade from the ground up, I opened my own firm in September of 2021.
My goal is to provide comprehensive immigration representation in and outside of court. I am most proud that my clients are happy. When I win a case, I open doors for a family. Winning cases is both professionally and personally rewarding.
I want my clients to know and understand that hiring competent representation when applying for immigration benefits is the most valuable investment you can make in yourself. You have to have roots, so you can grow.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think I have a positive reputation in the immigration community because I am accessible. When people think of lawyers, they think of stuffy law firms, suits, and complicated legal jargon. At my office, I strive to be personable and available to my clients and potential clients. I answer the phones personally, I review cases personally, and if a client has an issue that is outside my scope of expertise, I try my best to point them in the right direction.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Immigration law comes with many surprises. The law changes daily. Sometimes its impossible to have all the facts of a case before going into a hearing – mainly because the government is slow to provide the backstory. Recently, I was hired in a bond hearing. A bond hearing is a hearing conducted in immigration court where a client has been arrested for a litany of reasons, and we request they be released. The client had a few criminal charges, but nothing that appeared to prohibit his release from detention.
At the hearing, I was served with criminal charges I hadn’t prepared for, namely because the client was unaware of them and the government had not provided them prior. Luckily, I was able to argue for his release with the support of his family. What could have turned into a sad story became a story of victory, and the client is now at home with his family.
