We were lucky to catch up with GRACIE BINION recently and have shared our conversation below.
GRACIE, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents have always championed what I’ve been passionate about. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been loud. I’ve always loved performing. I wanted to dance, they put me in classes. I wanted to act, they put me in classes. I wanted to sing, they put me in classes. My parents believed in me- they believed that God had a purpose for my gift, and they didn’t fail to invest in that. I’m forever grateful for that.

GRACIE, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name’s Gracie, I’m 24 years old, newly married, and I’ve been professionally writing and recording music for 8 years now. I grew up in church, my parents being worship leaders, and my dad being a songwriter. I was always surrounded by music and never wanted to pursue anything else! I believe that God created us to create with him, and I’m a big HATER towards creative suppression. I believe there’s a revolution happening in Christian music- I believe that believers are going to start bleeding into secular music and changing the culture. I believe we’re going to stop putting a cap on what we call acceptable- creativity is going to become more and more celebrated. It’s not about self- it’s about removing the cap that we decided to put over God’s creativity working through us.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The desire that’s been in my heart for my entire life is to make the music that naturally comes out of me. It’s grown and evolved through the years into its purest form so far, but I absolutely crave to create pure hearted music that touches the heart of God, and the heart of people. I love to give people something to connect to, ultimately bringing healing, growth, joy, and the freedom to express and feel.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve been songwriting since I was a kid- about 6 or 7 years old. I’ve never stopped. I started recording demos for my songs at 9 years old, and kept pushing. I’ve signed multiple record deals that didn’t go as planned, or just weren’t the right fit. I’ve spent 8 years getting shot down in one way or another, and I’m still going, because I don’t know any other way to live but to keep expressing my authentic self.
